Dear Friends:

As we continue to battle COVID-19 and ensure that New York City remains on the right track in our recovery, let’s not forget another important concern – completing the 2020 U.S. Census.

Census data plays a major role in allocating funding for federal spending programs. At stake is at least $121 billion that the federal government allocates to New York State annually for vital services, including public education, transit, housing, nutrition programs, and healthcare – all things we urgently need in order to rebuild post-COVID. The census also determines political representation, and New York is in danger of losing up to two Congressional seats without an accurate count.

Ensuring that every New Yorker is fully counted is more critical than ever.

If you haven’t filled out your census form yet, you can do so safely by completing the form online or over the phone by calling (844) 330-2020. For phone numbers serving non-English languages, click here. By completing the census, you will help ensure that New York receives our fair share of essential resources.

Finally, I want to remind New Yorkers that there are many services and resources available to help them during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the ones outlined below.

Your local Council Member can also be a helpful resource and advocate. To find contact information for your local Council representative, please visit the Council’s website here.

Thank you and, as always, stay safe.

In service,

Corey Johnson
Speaker
New York City Council
