TOMORROW: CONGRESSMAN VEASEY TO VISIT FORT WORTH POSTAL DISTRIBUTION FACILITY

House to vote this Saturday on bill to save the Postal Service from sabotage

FORT WORTH, TEXASTOMORROW, Friday, August, 21st, Congressman Marc Veasey will visit the Fort Worth Processing and Distribution Center. Directly following the visit, Congressman Veasey will have media availability outside of the facility at 11:15am. On Saturday, the House of Representatives plans to vote on the Delivering for America Act—legislation to protect our nation’s Postal Service from sabotage.

The Postal Service is a pillar of our democracy, enshrined in the Constitution and essential for providing critical services: delivering prescriptions, Social Security benefits, paychecks, tax returns and absentee ballots to millions of Americans, including in our most remote communities.

Yet, President Trump  – enabled by his top mega-donor Postmaster General Louis DeJoy – is waging a campaign to sabotage the election by manipulating the Postal Service to disenfranchise voters.  Across the nation, Postmaster General DeJoy continues to push forward sweeping new operational changes that degrade postal service, delay the mail and threaten to deny the ability of eligible Americans to cast their votes through the mail in the upcoming elections in a timely fashion. Earlier this week, Postmaster General DeJoy announced an alleged pause in operational changes delaying the mail--this is not a solution and is misleading.  This pause is wholly insufficient and does not reverse damage already wreaked.

Tomorrow’s visit is part of Congressman Veasey’s week of action to protect the vital postal service. On Tuesday, Congressman Veasey led his colleagues on a letter urging Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to open an investigation into the Trump Administration’s illegal attempts at voter suppression using the Postal Service. On Wednesday, he hosted a virtual listening session with United States Postal Service workers. On Saturday, Congressman Veasey will return to Washington, D.C. to vote on Oversight and Reform Committee Chairwoman Maloney’s ‘Delivering for America Act,’ which prohibits the Postal Service from implementing any changes to the operations or level of service it had in place on January 1, 2020.
