Congress Puts Federal Cop on the Beat to Stop Unwanted and Predatory Robocalls
Bipartisan legislation championed by Peter to provide relief from unwanted robocalls has been signed into law. “Vermonters are fed up with intrusive robocalls that are annoying at best and predatory at worst,” said Peter. “These calls often originate from scam artists intent on ripping off unsuspecting consumers, particularly seniors. This is a bipartisan win for Vermonters that gives the FCC the tools it needs to be the cop on the beat to go after these bad actors.”
Welch Bill Cracking Down on Big Pharma Signed into Law
Peter’s bipartisan legislation to stop Big Pharma from blocking the development of more affordable generic drugs has been signed into law. Brand name drug companies have been withholding samples needed by generic manufacturers to develop more affordable and equally effective drugs. “This bill outlaws one of Big Pharma’s most egregious anti-competitive practices and will lower drug prices for consumers,” said Peter.
Bill Boosting International Tourism Signed into Law
Bipartisan legislation introduced by Peter to promote Vermont and other states as a destination for international tourists has been signed into law. His bill reauthorizes Brand USA, a successful public-private partnership funded at no cost to taxpayers. “The travel and tourism industry is a key driver of Vermont’s economy,” said Peter. “Promoting Vermont as a four-season destination for international visitors will create jobs and boost the economy in every corner of our beautiful state.”
Protecting Vermont Businesses and Consumers
At a press conference in Winooski, Peter was joined by representatives of Vermont’s food and beverage industry to highlight the devastating impacts that proposed 100% tariffs on European wine imports would have on their businesses and customers. “Congress should reassert its authority over tariffs and not allow it, in my view, to be abused as a negotiating tactic on unrelated matters,” said Peter.
