Dear Friend,

This is What Democracy Looks Like

Peter stood with thousands of students on the lawn of the U.S. Capitol in March to demand commonsense gun safety reforms. “This is indeed what democracy looks like,” he insisted. “It’s time for Congress to act.” View his remarks on National School Walkout Day in the video below.

March for Our Lives

Peter also attended the student-led ‘March for Our Lives’ rally in Montpelier on March 24th to voice his support for the students and their call to action. “To the students demonstrating in Montpelier and across the nation, together, you are powerful,” he said. “Keep fighting to make your voices heard.”

Protecting Special Counsel Mueller’s Investigation

Peter took to the House floor to condemn the ongoing and aggressive efforts by President Trump and his allies to undermine the investigation of Special Counsel Robert Mueller. “No one is above the law, especially the President of the United States,” he urged his colleagues. He is a cosponsor of legislation to require judicial review of any decision to fire Mr. Mueller. See his full remarks below.

Containing the Spread of the Emerald Ash Borer

At a press conference with Secretary of Agriculture Anson Tebbetts, Peter outlined his plans for a robust, coordinated response to the spread of the emerald ash borer in Vermont. “Forests are a central part of our economy, our heritage, and our way of life,” he insisted. “While there is little we can do to eradicate this pest, there is a lot we can do to contain its spread.”

Protecting the Environment from Ethanol-related Impacts

Peter has introduced another bill to reform the federal requirement that ethanol be blended into our gasoline. Ethanol in gasoline is not only damaging small engines in chainsaws, boats and snowmobiles, but is also harming the environment. “This commonsense legislation reforms the ethanol mandate to drastically reduce its environmental impact and to support the continued growth of advanced biofuels,” Peter said. His bill is endorsed by National Wildlife Federation, Sierra Club, Clean Air Task Force, and former Rep. Henry Waxman.
