In remarks on the House floor during debate on the tax bill, Peter outlined why he strongly opposes it.  “If you asked 435 members of Congress if they want to raise taxes on students, the answer from 435 members would be ‘No.’ This bill was written by and for the donor class. Let’s defeat this bill and stand up for the middle class.”


FCC to Abandon Net Neutrality, Putting Free and Open Internet in Jeopardy

Peter did not mince words in his response to the Federal Communications Commission’s proposal to gut net neutrality rules. “This proposal is a wholesale abandonment of the FCC’s core responsibility to protect the interests of consumers and an early Christmas present to big telecom companies. A free and open internet is essential to the free flow of ideas, creativity, participatory democracy, and commerce.”

Keeping Vermonters Warm

At the request of the Vermont Congressional Delegation, federal officials released to Vermont $16.9 million in home heating assistance funding. “Vermonters should not have to choose between heating their homes and feeding their families,” Peter said.  Anyone needing assistance should call 1-800-479-6151 or visit the website of the Department of Children and Families.

Helping Others During the Holiday Season

Peter spent Thanksgiving week traveling across Vermont to highlight the important work of organizations helping those in need during the holiday season and year-round.

Peter helped distribute turkeys at the Upper Valley Haven in White River Junction.
