News from Representative Cummings

January 30, 2017

Dear Friend,
Last week, President Trump signed an executive order targeting Muslims.  I can think of few things more un-American than discriminating against people seeking to come to America because of their religion.  His executive order betrays who we are as a country and makes us less safe.
There are now reports that President Trump did not consult with the federal agencies that will have to implement his unilateral executive order, which explains the chaos and confusion it caused at airports nationwide.
America has always been at its best when we understand that diversity is our promise—not our problem.  Americans of all faiths—Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Mormon—oppose this blatant religious discrimination.
I was proud to join hundreds of our neighbors at BWI on Sunday to speak out against this xenophobic executive order.  During his Inaugural Address, President Trump said he was “transferring power from Washington, D.C. and giving it back to you, the people.”  Well, the people have spoken, and we do not want this executive order to stand.  The President should rescind it immediately.
