News from Representative Cummings

December 28, 2016

Dear Friend,

It was a great honor to serve you and our neighbors in Maryland’s Seventh Congressional District in Washington this year.  As the year draws to a close, I want to take a moment to share some highlights from this year with you.

Every day I have held office, I have tried to do everything in my power to help my constituents live the best lives they can.  That is why I have three full-time district offices to ensure that all my constituents can get in contact with my staff when they need help.  I am proud that my office closed more than 900 constituent cases, recovered more than $250,000 in unpaid federal benefits, and brought nearly $275 million in federal grants and tax credits to the district this year.

I am also proud of the 4 bills I was able to have passed this year—the Inspector General Empowerment Act, the Federal Asset Sale and Transfer Act, the Whistleblower Protections for Contractors Act and the FOIA Improvement Act of 2016.  These 4 bills will reduce fraud, waste and abuse in federal agencies, and make the federal government more open and transparent to taxpayers.

Thank you for allowing me to share this update with you, and please continue to share your concerns and insights with me by contacting my office or connecting with me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or YouTube.

Sincerely,

Elijah E. Cummings
Member of Congress
