News from Representative Cummings

November 18, 2016

Dear Friend,

Many of you have called my office to voice your concerns about alt-right leader Steve Bannon’s appointment as White House Chief Strategist.  I share your concerns, which is why I joined more than 160 House Democrats to send a letter to President-elect Donald Trump urging him to rescind Mr. Bannon’s appointment.

Following the election, Mr. Trump said, “Now it’s time for America to bind the wounds of division.  It is time for us to come together as one united people.”

I do not see how naming an advocate of white nationalism as a top White House aide will achieve this goal.

While Mr. Bannon was executive chairman of Breitbart News, his website published articles with offensive and incendiary headlines, such as “Birth Control Makes Women Unattractive and Crazy” and “Bill Kristol:  Republican Spoiler, Renegade Jew.”

A supporter of white nationalists and the alt-right does not deserve an office in the West Wing.  There is no place for hate in the White House.

If President-Elect Trump wants to bring the American people together, he must fire Bannon immediately.
