News from Representative Cummings

August 26, 2016

Dear Friend,

I am pleased to announce that my office will be accepting submissions for the 2016 Congressional App Challenge until November 2, 2016 at 12:00pm ET.

Open to all high school students in the Seventh Congressional District of Maryland, the Challenge is designed to promote innovation and engagement in coding and computer science. Students will compete against their peers by creating an application or “app,” for mobile, tablet, or computer devices.

Submissions will be judged on the following criteria: quality of the idea, including creativity and originality; implementation of the idea, including user experience and design; and demonstrated excellence of coding and programming skills.

The winner, chosen by a panel of expert judges, will be featured on, and the winning app will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol alongside winners from across the country.

For more information, please visit the official Congressional App Challenge website at or contact Ms. Philisha Lane at (410) 685-9199.

I cannot wait to witness the creativity and ingenuity of the Seventh District’s brilliant students.
