2015 School Breakfast Week
March 2-6 


This year’s theme, Breakfast — The Smart Way to Start Your Day, shows students the importance of a nutritious meal that includes Texas products. To add to the celebration, the Local Products Challenge returns, offering recognition from the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) for School Breakfast Program (SBP) participants that pledge participation and use Texas products in breakfasts served March 2-6.

If you are a Texas school operating the SBP, 
pledge your participation today!

USDA anticipates releasing the next Request for Application (RFA) for the Farm to School Grant Program in February. The official announcement will be shared. In the meantime you may browse the online resources currently available, including an archive copy of the previous RFA and summaries of previously funded grant projects.

Farm to School Resource Spotlight

What's Cooking? USDA Mixing Bowl

Check out the What’s Cooking? USDA Mixing Bowl. This interactive tool is designed to help consumers, school nutrition professionals, child care centers and community leaders find nutritious and budget-friendly recipes. Customized searches allow you to discover recipes that meet meal planning needs and include regional ingredients. There are recipes scaled for families as well as large quantity recipes for schools and child care centers.

Farm to School Spotlight Story

New Let’s Move! Executive Director Announced

Earlier this month, the White House announced that Debra “Deb” Eschmeyer will be the new Let’s Move! executive director. Ms. Eschmeyer was previously the executive director and co-founder of FoodCorps, a national AmeriCorps service program that places emerging leaders into schools in limited-resource communities for a year of public service. FoodCorps service members have been integral in the national expansion of farm to school.
