News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

This past week, it was wonderful to spend time in Minnesota’s Sixth District! From touring thriving businesses to reconnecting with community leaders, I am reminded with every conversation what our mission in Washington needs to be: to represent your needs. We are back in session this week, and I look forward to working to further our shared goals.

Sincerely,

Foley Town Hall

I heard from many of you at my town hall in Foley last week. Town halls are one of my favorite parts of the job. I enjoy traveling around the district to learn about the issues you care about most and how we can work together to solve them. You can read more about my town hall here. Stay tuned to this newsletter or my Facebook and Twitter for updates about upcoming events and my next town hall!

Tri-County Humane Society

I visited the Tri-County Humane Society where I shared with them my co-sponsorship of H.R. 4305, the PAWS for Veterans Therapy Act. This legislation passed the House and will authorize a pilot program for the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to partner with non-profit organizations who specialize in working with veterans and service dogs. I was grateful for the tour and learned a lot about the great work they do!

gBETA Tech Roundtable

I attended a roundtable in St. Cloud that brought together individuals participating in a free, seven-week accelerator for early-stage local companies. They assist them with seed money and mentorship, helping to boost the local economy and drive innovation and talent to all parts of Minnesota. I was impressed by all of the community members, business leaders, and individuals interested in supporting startups in Central Minnesota.

I spoke with the founder of Enlight, which is a startup that helps teachers learn about their students in order to provide a unique and tailored education. When teachers understand students’ learning preferences, interests, passions, and motivations, they are better able to serve their students. I learned about many incredible startups in Central Minnesota and look forward to seeing their success and the strength they add to our economy.

I also shared with them my Main Street Growth Act which will allow for the creation of venture exchanges. These specialized securities exchanges would help small and emerging companies gain access to the capital they need to grow and succeed. I am committed to facilitating the creation of venture exchanges to embolden more early-stage IPOs and improve capital formation for businesses in Minnesota and across the United States.
