News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

Every August, Congress has their District Work Period, and this week I took full advantage of being back in my favorite place: Minnesota’s Sixth District.

I held a town hall in Scandia where we discussed some of the most pressing issues our communities face - from the rising cost of health care, to environmentally sustainable ways to mine Minnesota's natural resources, to transportation solutions that will improve the roads we drive every day.

I shared updates on my National Interchange/Intersection Safety Construction Program (NIISCP) Act, which prioritizes funding for intersections and interchanges to improve safety, and increase local control over federal transportation dollars. We discussed my legislation, the Medical Innovation Never Stops Act, which would provide consistency and continuity for medical device manufacturers during lapses in government funding in order to allow life-saving devices to reach the market for patients in need.

I also shared letters I wrote in support of increased funding for very important transportation routes in Minnesota's Sixth District. I wrote a letter to the U.S. Department of Transportation asking for increased funds for the expansion of I-94 and another letter asking for funds to support a much needed reconstruction project for Highway 212. These projects will improve safety and provide reliable transportation for all Minnesotans.

I believe town halls remain the best possible way to connect with all of you. That is why I’m hosting another town hall on August 14th in St. Cloud at the City Hall at 7:30PM. I hope many of you will join me to discuss issues that you care about most. For more information, visit my website

Last week, I also stopped by the Anoka Police Department's event, "Popsicle's in the park with Police" where I was able to witness our local law enforcement building meaningful relationships with the community. These innovative efforts to connect with the community build understanding and engagement with our local law enforcement.

I was also glad to stop by the Lino Lakes YMCA for their Foreverwell event where I heard from some of our seniors about the important issues they care about. My office has begun hosting Senior Forums to provide a one stop shop for aging well.

Our seniors and their caregivers deserve access to the resources they need. I will be hosting another event this fall, stay tuned to my Twitter and Facebook for updates! Read more about our first senior forum here. I hope to see many of you at my town hall next  or around the district over the next few weeks!

Sincerely,
