News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

Our seniors have laid the foundation for the rich traditions and thriving communities we see throughout Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional District. Senior citizens offer wisdom, varied experiences, and deep insights. They deserve to age with dignity and support, and I will do my best to ensure that happens.

At the start of the 116th Congress, I made it a priority to work with my colleagues to produce legislation to provide resources for our seniors.

This month in Congress, the House passed, and I voted for H.R. 1994, Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement Act of 2019 (SECURE Act). This bipartisan legislation modifies the requirements for employer-provided retirement plans, individual retirement accounts (IRAs), and other tax-favored saving accounts. H.R. 1994 is specifically catered to helping seniors, as it allows for companies to alter their retirement plans to help their employees.

Next week, I am hosting a Senior Forum on June 14th. This informational forum for seniors and their caregivers will be held at the St. Michael City Hall from 1:00PM to 3:30PM. The Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging and the Central Minnesota Council on Aging will join my office to help facilitate the event in order to provide information and resources to assist seniors with health, lifestyle, and future planning needs.
