News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

This week kicks off National Police Week! This week we recognize the work of the men and women in law enforcement who protect our families every day. Minnesota is home to some of the best law enforcement officers in the nation. While we should be reminded of their service every day, this week, please take the time to thank our law enforcement officers for their tireless efforts to maintain safety for all Minnesotans.

As your representative, it is my responsibility to ensure that law enforcement officers have the tools they need to do their job effectively and efficiently to keep our great state safe. As you may know, I reintroduced the Abby Honold Act this year to help law enforcement investigate and prosecute sexual assault cases while improving care and treatment for victims.

This year, I also co-sponsored H.R. 1156, the LEOSA Reform Act, to improve the Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act and provisions relating to the carrying of concealed weapons by law enforcement officers. I also co-sponsored H.R. 1865, the National Law Enforcement Museum Commemorative Coin Act to honor the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers throughout the history of the United States.

In March, I had the privilege of meeting with the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association (MPPOA) to discuss critical Department of Justice funding to combat crime, and grant funding for law enforcement at the state and local levels of government. I look forward to continuing my work with the MPPOA, as they represent and support those who protect us.

As I continue to work with my colleagues during the 116th Congress, I will prioritize legislation to recognize and assist our incredible law enforcement. National Police Week gives us the chance to remind ourselves of their work, service, and sacrifice on the local and national level.  Thank you - from the bottom of my heart - to all law enforcement for the work you do, and the sacrifices you make. We are grateful to you.

Sincerely,
