News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

Last week, I visited GeoComm headquarters in St. Cloud where I had the opportunity to join local leaders to learn about the life-saving telecommunication services they provide.

GeoComm’s latest mission has the company working with the St. Cloud Public Safety Foundation to utilize their innovative mapping technology to help law enforcement improve their response to active-shooter emergencies in schools.

This technology enables law enforcement to pinpoint the point of origin of a 9-1-1 call, allowing officers and medical personnel to respond more rapidly to an emergency situation.

I have supported legislation to further school safety, specifically my vote for H.R. 4909, the STOP School Violence Act, which provides States with additional resources for school violence prevention. This legislation is part of Congress and the Administration’s efforts to prevent future tragedies in our schools, and was signed into law on March 23, 2018. As your Representative, I consider it my duty to support safety at our schools, facilities, and district at-large. As the father of seven, I understand firsthand the necessity to keep our future generations safe as they learn.

GeoComm’s work expands further than school safety. They have worked with St. Cloud State to improve safety mapping of other indoor locations, like U.S. Bank Stadium which they mapped in preparation for the Super Bowl. I am always encouraged by technologies that focus on keeping students, constituents, and our state safe.

Companies in our communities like GeoComm dedicate their mission to rapid response, and life-saving technologies. There are so many individuals behind the scenes protecting us and our families; we should always remember the incredible services they provide.

For instance - this weekend at the Final Four – many individuals will be focused on the mission of keeping attendees safe and secure. To those that dedicate themselves to public safety and work to make our state a safer place, the rest of us thank you!

To learn more about GeoComm, visit their website here. I look forward to continue working with them to assist our local facilities and organizations as we work toward common public safety goals for our state.

Until next week…
