Weekly Newsletter

We need to take action now to continue to protect Lake Mead and our water – that's why this week I announced the creation of a small group of water advisors to help ensure Nevada remains on the forefront of cutting-edge and innovative water technology for years to come. I also announced that my office is preparing a water conservation package with American Rescue Plan funds to make sure that local governments have the tools they need to prepare for the future. With the Southern Nevada Water Authority this week, I toured the Low Lake Level Pumping Station which allows us to continue accessing water supplies as lake levels go down. Nevada has been preparing for this moment for decades -- thanks to efforts from SNWA and across the State, we have taken several remarkable and forward-thinking steps in water conservation and efficiency policies. Read more about my announcement here.

This week, I also joined the City of Las Vegas and the Downtown Las Vegas Alliance for a discussion on the Las Vegas Medical District and our visions for its future, to create a more robust and comprehensive health care system for our community in Southern Nevada. The Interim Finance Committee approved significant legislation I put forward, with $40 million for an ambulatory clinic at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV in the heart of the Medical District and $30 million to build a new public health lab. We need to invest in our education and strong medical communities – to provide a pathway for more Nevadans to get their degrees and offer lucrative jobs to keep them in our State.

Thank you,

Governor Sisolak

Answering Nevada's Questions

As climate change and severe drought continue to impact Lake Mead, we need to work together to conserve and recycle.

Q: What can I do to help conserve water and reduce water waste in my neighborhood?

A:
My office has developed a handout for neighbors across the valley to learn ways they can take steps to help conserve, including:

  • Follow the mandatory watering schedule and reduce watering on September 1 to your three assigned watering days
  • Replace nonfunctional grass now while rebate dollars are available
  • Report water waste when you see it to your local utility

Visit SNWA.com to find conservation rebates and learn more about new development restrictions that might affect you.

Department of Agriculture to Buy Food from Nevada Farmers, Producers Processors to Fight Food Insecurity

Image

Through the Home Feeds Nevada Agriculture Food Purchase program, the Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) will purchase foods that are grown, produced or processed in Nevada and distribute them through designated food banks to populations in need.

The NDA is requesting applications from local farmers, ranchers, food producers and processors interested in selling food to be used to fight food insecurity, and from storage and transportation providers to help aggregate and transport food. As vendors are confirmed, food will be distributed through the Food Bank of Northern Nevada and Three Square networks to Nevadans in need.

Nevadans Reminded of COVID-19 Resources

Image

The Nevada Health Response wants to remind Nevadans to take steps to help reduce the risk of COVID-19 and prevent spread. COVID-19 vaccines and booster doses are available in locations statewide and can protect against serious infection. Pre-exposure medication or oral antivirals and monoclonal antibody treatments are available to those that are eligible soon after infection occurs.

Resources available to help Nevadans mitigate the risk of COVID-19:

  • Get vaccinated against COVID-19. Learn about the vaccines available, and where and how to get your vaccination appointment at NVCOVIDFighter.com or call the vaccine hotline at 800-401-0946.
  • Learn about therapeutics. COVID-19 treatment appointments can be made through Nevada’s hotline at 800-401-0946. The hotline can help determine if you are eligible for oral antivirals or monoclonal antibody treatments after infection or for pre-exposure medication to increase immune response if you were to be infected in the future. The pre-screening can also be done online at NevadaCOVIDTreatment.com
