Weekly Newsletter

This week, I was proud to officially kick off the I-15/Tropicana Interchange Project alongside U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. We were joined by Nevada Department of Transportation Director Kristina Swallow and many others from our federal delegation who were integral in making this happen. This project will replace the 60-year-old Tropicana bridge, creating a safer and more reliable access point to the Las Vegas Strip. The I-15/Tropicana Interchange is the gateway to the Entertainment and Sports Capital of the World. The project will support more than 4,600 construction jobs throughout its duration – and once it’s done, it will support even more jobs, by making it easier to travel in the area and host events here. We must invest in safe and effective infrastructure now that will hold up for generations. For more information about the project, click here.

I was honored to participate in this year’s Memorial Day Ceremony at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City on Monday. It’s through ceremonies just like that one that the legacies of Nevadans who sacrificed everything in service to our country live on. The passage of time will never dull, nor diminish the service, courage and bravery of Nevadans who put on a military uniform. On Memorial Day and through the rest of the year, we thank them for our freedom, liberty and independence – which we enjoy because of their service and sacrifice.

At the bottom of this newsletter, you can learn more about the Nevada Department of Veterans Services and find resources for Nevada’s veterans.

Thank you,

Governor Sisolak

Attention Medicaid Enrollees: Make Sure Your Contact Info is Up to Date

Image

The federal government declared a public health emergency (PHE) for COVID-19 on January 31, 2020. The PHE helped families and children receive preventive and primary care during the pandemic without disruptions in coverage. The PHE also required states to keep Medicaid enrollees continuously covered.

If you currently have access to Medicaid benefits, you could lose your coverage once the PHE ends; here’s what you need to do keep continuous coverage for you and your family:
  • Make sure your Medicaid contact information is up to date: accessnevada.dwss.nv.gov
  • Check your mail for a letter from DWSS
  • Complete your renewal form (if you receive one)
What to do if you lose Medicaid:
  • Enroll in a qualified health plan through Nevada Health Link within 60 days of losing coverage: https://www.nevadahealthlink.com/
  • Reapply for Medicaid if you think you are still eligible.
As the PHE is unwinding, check out and share the news about these affordable rates at Nevada Health Link, they are here to help you through the application process, so you don’t have a lapse in coverage.

Nevadans Reminded of COVID-19 Resources

Image

The Nevada Health Response wants to remind Nevadans to take steps to help reduce the risk of COVID-19 and prevent spread at gatherings this summer. COVID-19 vaccines and booster doses are available in locations statewide and can protect against serious infection. Pre-exposure medication or oral antivirals and monoclonal antibody treatments are available to those that are eligible soon after infection occurs.

Resources available to help Nevadans mitigate the risk of COVID-19:

Get vaccinated against COVID-19. Learn about the vaccines available, and where and how to get your vaccination appointment at NVCOVIDFighter.com or call the vaccine hotline at 800-401-0946.

Get tested if you are exposed or have symptoms. If you have symptoms or know that you have been exposed to COVID-19, get tested to prevent disease spread. Learn more about testing clinics, or free at-home tests available for pickup at https://nvhealthresponse.nv.gov/find-covid-19-testing-in-nevada/

Learn about therapeutics. COVID-19 treatment appointments can be made through Nevada’s hotline at 800-401-0946. The hotline can help determine if you are eligible for oral antivirals or monoclonal antibody treatments after infection or for pre-exposure medication to increase immune response if you were to be infected in the future. The pre-screening can also be done online at NevadaCOVIDTreatment.com

Nevada Department of Veterans Services

The Nevada Department of Veterans Services (NDVS) provides programs, resources and services to Nevada’s veterans, and military members, including active-duty, Guard and Reserve members who live or work in Nevada. NDVS also supports the families, caregivers and survivors of veterans and military members. The NDVS mission is to serve Nevada veterans by honoring their remarkable legacy and by connecting them to earned benefits and services. In addition to supportive programs and services, NDVS also oversees two State Veterans Homes and two State Veterans Cemeteries.

The NDVS Veterans Advocacy and Support Team (VAST) professionally assists veterans and their families in obtaining Federal and State veterans’ benefits earned through U.S. military service. VAST includes our VA accredited Veterans Service Officers who provide, at NO COST, assistance in filing claims to the VA or provide support in the appeals process.

NDVS provides quality skilled nursing care through two State Veterans Homes, offering 24-hour nursing care, seven days a week. The Southern Nevada State Veterans Home is an award winning, 180-bed community for veterans, spouses, and Gold Star parents. It is located in Boulder City, Nevada. It is also home to the PFC David “Nick” Crombie Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Training Academy offering FREE onsite CNA training to those who qualify as well as job opportunities for Crombie Academy graduates who obtain their Nevada CNA certification. The Northern Nevada State Veterans Home is a 96-bed, skilled nursing care facility located in Sparks, Nevada. The Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery is located in Fernley, Nevada. Veterans are buried at no charge. A $450 fee (subject to change) is charged for the burial of a spouse or eligible dependent.

NDVS develops and effectively manages programs designed to address the needs of at-risk veterans. This includes unique veteran populations such as women veterans, Native American veterans, LGBTQ veterans, and more. The department provides information on earned benefits as well as connection to resources in a number of key areas such as housing, employment, education, health and wellness, suicide prevention, transportation and legal assistance.

The Nevada Transition Assistance Program (NVTAP) supports the successful reintegration of returning servicemembers and veterans into Nevada’s communities.

NDVS ensures every veteran, every generation and all eras of Nevada’s veterans, whether serving in combat or in times of restless peace, are honored and recognized for their service and sacrifice through ceremonies and information campaigns including the Veteran of the Month, Veteran Supporter of the Month, Serving Veterans Youth Award, and Veterans in Care programs.
