SIXTH DISTRICT NEWS

I am thrilled to have been able to present the South Korea Veterans Ambassador for Peace Medal to the family of my friend, Roy Bates, at our Sixth District Veterans Coalition meeting on November 26.

Dear Friend,

I want to be among the first to wish those across the Sixth Congressional District a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. During this busy time, I want to reach out to provide an update on some legislative work that I have been a part of as we close the year.

RECOGNIZING OUR VETERANS FOR THEIR SERVICE

Roy Bates was a hero for his service in the Korean War, and I am grateful that I could present his daughter Charlene with the Korean Ambassador of Peace Medal for her father's service. This medal is typically given to those veterans who served in the Korean War and have since returned to South Korea, however, Mr. Bates was an exception due to his heroism in the conflict. I am humbled to have been able to play a role in allowing Mr. Bates to receive this medal posthumously. Mr. Bates' story was covered in the Winchester Sun, which you can find here and WKYT which can be found here

MAKING STRIDES IN CONGRESS TO ENSURE OUR VETERANS ARE TAKEN CARE OF AFTER RETURNING FROM SERVICE

Last month's observance of Veterans Day reminds us all that veterans make up the very heart and soul of every community throughout the Commonwealth. Their sacrifice to our country in defense of our freedoms is a debt that we will never be able to repay. As a member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, the grandson of two WWII Veterans, and the son of a Vietnam-era veteran, I have the privilege of diligently working with veterans across the country to address the issues that matter most to them. Thankfully, we have made great strides in the modernization of policies that will ensure our veterans are taken care of after returning from service. You can read my full column on the work we are doing for veterans here

SECURING A FEDERAL GRANT TO IMPROVE OUR INFRASTRUCTURE

I am thankful to have helped secure a $10.2 million grant for Bourbon and Scott Counties from the Department of Transportation to aid in reconstructing a stretch of highway that is vital to the economic development of the area. This grant is provided as part of the Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) program within the Department of Transportation. This grant will help to upgrade US 460 from Paris to I-75 in Georgetown, an important asset to the Paris/Bourbon County Industrial Park. I am thankful to Senator McConnell and the Trump Administration for their assistance in helping secure this grant for the Sixth District. You can read more about the grant here.

 USMCA CLEARS PARTISAN GRIDLOCK

More than a year after President Trump negotiated the North America trade deal, it’s good to finally see the unnecessary partisan delay by Speaker Nancy Pelosi to pass the United States-Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA) coming to an end. This deal is good for American workers, farmers, consumers and employers – including Kentucky’s automotive, bourbon and agriculture communities. It modernizes our trade policies, and it helps those who have been impacted by bad trade policies in the past. Negotiating fair trade policies is not a partisan issue, and it should have never been handled as such. I look forward to a strong bipartisan vote on the USCMA in the House later this week. In case you missed it, I wrote a column on the importance and benefits of passing the USMCA, you can read it here.

HOUSE DEMOCRATS ARE IMPEACHING THE PRESIDENT TO FIT THEIR PARTISAN AGENDA

Image
Last week, I sat down with Newsmax to discuss the impeachment proceedings and the effect on Congress.

Yesterday was a sad day for our country, as House Democrats voted to move forward with their hyper-partisan, two-and-a-half-year plan to impeach President Trump. Since before he was even sworn in to office, Democrats have touted their plan to reverse the results of the 2016 election – and they are trying to do so less than a year before Americans have a chance to rate the President’s job performance on their own at the polls. The Democrats’ sham impeachment is not based on facts or criminal activity. House Democrats are impeaching the President because they don’t like him. Today’s actions are an attempt to overturn the 2016 elections and an injustice to our Constitution, the Founders, and the Republic. I spoke to this issue on the floor of the House yesterday, you can listen to my comments here

I recently took part in an interview with Newsmax to discuss the impeachment issue and actions taken by the President on Ukraine. The House Democrats are chasing impeachment on a matter the President had full authority to take action on. When it comes to foreign corruption, the President has every right to withhold aid to ensure our resources are not going to misused by a corrupt government. The Democrats refuse to acknowledge this duty and are continuing this partisan impeachment scam, enough is enough, House Democrats need to drop this so we can get back to working for the American people. You can watch my full Newsmax interview by clicking the picture above.
