Weekly Newsletter

Congratulations to the Class of 2022! Thousands of students across Nevada are crossing the graduation stage this month, marking the beginning of the next chapter of their lives. This week, I had the honor of speaking at a commencement ceremony at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas for the 2022 graduating class from College of Southern Nevada. I joined nearly 4,300 graduates, which included more than 1,500 first-generation students. This year’s graduates are a true reflection of our community, with a rich history and diversity. They are now better prepared than ever before to take on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead!

As we come to the end of National Police Week, I want to say thank you to the law enforcement in our State who put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities. Even though National Police Week is ending, these officers deserve appreciation year-round for their dedication to our safety. During the week, I visited CSN’s Police Academy to talk to recruits and learn more about the training. Programs like the Police Academy are more important now than ever – it's critical to get well-trained, highly-skilled peace officers ready to protect our great State.

This week, I also had the pleasure of celebrating nine schools who received the Governor STEM Designated Schools title. These nine schools each showed dedication to early science, technology, education and mathematics education across Nevada. Lieutenant Governor Lisa Cano Burkhead, the Office of Science, Innovation and Technology, the STEM Advisory Council and staff at Walker Elementary School joined me to present awards to the nine designated schools. During my visit, I met the incredible robotics team from Walker Elementary School and presented them a certificate for their excellence on behalf of the State. After being named best in Nevada, the team traveled to the VEX Robotics World Championship and ranked 25th in their division.

Thank you,

Governor Sisolak

Answering Nevada's Questions

Q: Now that the State of Emergency has ended – what does that mean for me?

A: For most Nevadans, the termination of the State of Emergency will not have a huge impact on day-to-day activities. Due to diligent planning and collaboration across all levels of government in Nevada, the need for the declaration of emergency has ended and the state is prepared to prevent, treat and manage COVID-19 cases.

The State continues to encourage Nevadans to take steps to protect themselves from the virus. Learn more about available resources, like testing, vaccination and treatment here.

If you are a medical professional that has been able to work under the declaration of emergency, contact your respective licensing board. Information can be found here.

Nevadans Reminded of COVID-19 Resources

  Image

The Nevada Health Response wants to remind Nevadans to take steps to help reduce the risk of COVID-19 and prevent spread at gatherings this summer. COVID-19 vaccines and booster doses are available in locations statewide and can protect against serious infection. Pre-exposure medication or oral antivirals and monoclonal antibody treatments are available to those that are eligible soon after infection occurs.

Resources available to help Nevadans mitigate the risk of COVID-19:

  • Get vaccinated against COVID-19. Learn about the vaccines available, and where and how to get your vaccination appointment at NVCOVIDFighter.com or call the vaccine hotline at 800-401-0946
  • Get tested if you are exposed or have symptoms. If you have symptoms or know that you have been exposed to COVID-19, get tested to prevent disease spread. Learn more about testing clinics, or free at-home tests available for pickup at https://nvhealthresponse.nv.gov/find-covid-19-testing-in-nevada/
  • Learn about therapeutics. COVID-19 treatment appointments can be made through Nevada’s hotline at 800-401-0946. The hotline can help determine if you are eligible for oral antivirals or monoclonal antibody treatments after infection or for pre-exposure medication to increase immune response if you were to be infected in the future. The pre-screening can also be done online at NevadaCOVIDTreatment.com

Inspect Your Boat Before Heading Out on the Water

Image

Temperatures are getting warmer, school is ending and the summer boating season is here. But before you hit the water, if you’re a boat owner there are some things you need to take care of to make sure you and your boat are ready.

Here are some helpful tips to get you and your boat ready for the first outing:
  • Make sure your vessel is registered and you have an Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) sticker.
  • Give the boat a good cleaning inside and out. Remove all the dust, dirt and mold that might have accumulated.
  • While cleaning, check for cracks or any damage that might need to be addressed before you launch.
  • Check the batter. Make sure it’s fully charged, the terminals are clean and corrosion free and inspect the wiring to make sure there are no exposed wires.
  • Make sure all the navigation lights are working. Clean the lens if they are starting to get hazy.
  • Inspect the engine. Make sure all hoses and belts are not cracked or leaking. Change the oil and check all fluids.
An often overlooked step in boat preparation is the trailer. Be sure to check the following:
  • Check tire pressure.
  • Inspect rubber and tread on tires for damage or rotting.
  • Jack up wheels and make sure they rotate freely with no noise from the bearings.
  • Inspect trailer lights.
Now that the boat and trailer are ready to go, make sure all your safety gear is still in a serviceable condition:
  • Check your life jackets/PFD’s. Make sure the life jackets aren’t ripped and all the buckles and zippers work. If you have children, check the size and fit. They might have outgrown last year’s life jacket.
  • Check that the fire extinguisher is still charged.
After you have checked all these items, you will be ready for a fun, safe and worry-free day on the water!

Getting to Know Your State Government

CANNABIS COMPLIANCE BOARD

        ImageImage

The Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board (CCB) governs Nevada’s cannabis industry through strict regulation of all areas of its licensing and operations, protecting the public health and safety of Nevadans and visitors alike while holding cannabis licensees to the highest ethical standards.

Established on July 1, 2020, the CCB is one of the newest state agencies charged with setting the Gold Standard in cannabis oversight. Modeled after the highly respected Nevada Gaming Control Board, the CCB consists of five board members and 85+ full time staff. The CCB oversees nearly 760 licenses and 16,000+ people who hold agent cards to work in Nevada’s cannabis industry.

The CCB is made up of four divisions: Administration and Licensing, Inspection and Audit, Investigations, and Enforcement as it works closely with local and state law enforcement, lawmakers, the cannabis industry, and other community partners to address public health and safety concerns including the illicit market, rise of synthetic cannabinoids, and consumption by minors.

The CCB holds public board meetings monthly and most recently concluded its 15th public meeting and workshop on cannabis consumption lounges. Currently, the CCB is close to finalizing its regulations for the licensing and operation of consumption lounges with the first lounges likely able to open before the end of the year.

Learn more about the CCB here and follow the CCB on Twitter.
