News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

America is open for business.

In January, U.S. employers added 200,000 jobs and paychecks rose at the fastest pace in 8 years.

Our nation’s economy is reaping the benefits from a new tax code and an administration who continues to roll back heavy-handed regulations on American businesses. Companies are giving out bonuses, expanding and adding jobs, including US Bank and TCF Financial in Minnesota, among others.

Last week, however, 900 Minnesotans received devastating news. Electrolux’s decision to close their plant in St. Cloud was disappointing, to say the least. To get more information on how Electrolux made their decision and why, I teamed up with Senator Amy Klobuchar in a letter to Electrolux CEO, Jonas Samuelson. Read the letter here.

Fortunately, as was recently pointed out in the St. Cloud Times, unemployment rate is at an all-time low and the number of job openings is high, so I am optimistic for the future.

That’s why we’ve put together a "Job Seekers Toolkit” to help you or someone you know find their next opportunity. My office stands ready and willing to do what we can. Give us a call at 763-241-6848 and write to me here.

Sincerely,

Right now, companies need employees like you, because they want to grow and expand! As the Star Tribune states, “If trends continue, by mid-2018, there will be more jobs than people looking for them.”

This week in Washington:

This week, Congress faces another deadline to pass funding legislation for FY 2018. Tonight, the U.S. House is expected to vote on another short-term continuing resolution (CR) to ensure full funding for our troops, and avoid another government shutdown, fund community health centers and continue disaster relief funding. Stay tuned for “As-It-Happens” updates and learn more about tonight’s vote by following me on Twitter and Facebook.
