Weekly Newsletter

In the past week, the State presented the first four Community Recovery grants awarded to non-profits that provide direct and immediate community services to Nevadans.

These non-profits and grants included a $659,026 grant to The Food Bank of Northern Nevada in Sparks, $201,801 to Baby’s Bounty in Las Vegas, and $993,512 to Goodwill of Southern Nevada.

Lastly, on my behalf, the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services presented the Family Support Center in Winnemucca with a grant of $153,764 that will help the center reduce wait times and expand its services to serve additional clients.

I am grateful for the support these non-profit organizations have provided to Nevadans throughout this pandemic. These grants are a small token of our appreciation for their services which have been instrumental in helping Nevadans recover.

The State remains committed to investing federal dollars back into the community through programs that will have an immediate effect on the lives of Nevadans and the recovery of our State.

Thank you,

Governor Sisolak

Governor Sisolak Meets with Black Business Owners in Southern Nevada to Discuss Pandemic Recovery Efforts

       Image       Image

I was proud to meet with Black business owners in Southern Nevada at Illusions Salon to discuss ongoing pandemic recovery efforts. During the meeting, they highlighted the great strides taken in advancing the State’s recovery and identified the steps needed to ensure an equitable and just recovery for members of the Black-owned business community.

The pandemic has unquestionably been hard on all of us but has taken a disproportionate toll on minority and Black communities across Nevada. The State remains committed to providing a platform of support and inclusion as we continue to work collaboratively in achieving health equity for all.

Governor Sisolak and First Lady Kathy Sisolak Host Annual Nevada Employer Support of the Guard & Reserve Employer (ESGR) Banquet Dinner at Governor’s Mansion

Image

Last week, Kathy and I were honored to host the annual Nevada Employer Support of the Guard & Reserve Employer Recognition Banquet Dinner at the Governor's Mansion. Thank you to the organizers for putting together a great event!

These employers have sacrificed and allowed for a wide range of support to our service members to include flexible schedules, time off, and granting leaves of absence if needed. Most importantly, they have provided care to the families of Nevada’s uniformed employees in their absence.

It is the leadership found in employers like them that continue to move Nevada forward, making it the greatest State in the country to reside in!

Governor Sisolak Meets with Home Healthcare Worker Recently Awarded Supplemental Pay Through American Rescue Plan Funds

Image

This week, I was honored to meet with Irma Nuñez in my office to thank her for the work she has done as a home healthcare worker throughout the pandemic.

We recently made $500 in supplemental pay available to these workers through American Rescue Plan funds as a small thank you.

Thanks to the Nevada Interim Finance Committee (IFC), these funds should be reaching workers like Irma in the coming weeks. I was honored to hear Irma’s story and to start to think of ways we can continue to assist these frontlines workers.

Additionally, thank you to the Las Vegas Review-Journal for highlighting Irma’s story which you can read here.

This Week’s Nevada Small Business Spotlight: “G3 Electrical”

Image

When speaking with Tiesha Moore about the company that she and her husband Thomas started 11 years ago, it becomes immediately clear that customer service at G3 Electrical, an electrical contractor based in Las Vegas, is a top priority.

“We are a small family-owned electrical contractor company,” Tiesha said. “We know that the people we work with appreciate how we communicate. When somebody needs something, they speak directly to my husband or myself. We take a lot of pride in doing a good job.”

G3 Electrical serves commercial and industrial customers, they are involved in electrical construction, service, and maintenance. They also work on tenant improvement, design/build, and CNG systems. Their services consist of new construction, remodels, improvements, lighting upgrades, motor controls, and more. From designing as-built drawings, securing permits, and performing the electrical service, they are a full-service electrical contractor. They have done work for private schools, charters schools, public entities, concrete tilt-ups, and commercial buildings.

With the evolution of electric vehicles, Tiesha said G3 Electrical is doing more work installing EV Chargers in residential homes.

“While we do a lot of commercial and industrial work, we’re excited to be in the residential space,” Tiesha said.

For more information about G3 Electrical go to g3electrical.com or call 702-916-3355.

Nevada’s Bridges Remain Among the Nation’s Best

Image

The American Road and Transportation Builders Association’s (ARTBA) recently-released analysis of 2021 U.S. Department of Transportation bridge inventory data shows Nevada’s bridges remain among the nation’s best.

The Nevada Department of Transportation inspects the majority of bridges, including city and county-maintained structures, every two years.

While bridges are currently in good condition, more than 500 state-owned bridges are more than 50 years of age, an age when rehabilitation often becomes necessary to keep the structure in fair condition. The U.S. Department of Transportation recently announced that $225 million will be made available to preserve and improve Nevada bridges through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

Become an Organ Donor Through Nevada DMV and Show Some Love

Image

If you’ve ever lost a loved one to organ failure, then you know how important organ and tissue donation is. Lives are changed every day by the little red heart icon displayed on driver’s licenses and state ID cards. If you don’t have that, then please consider updating your status to donor and keep some hope alive for patients and their families.

Getting added to the donor registry couldn’t be easier and costs you nothing, except for a few moments of your time. You can do it while you’re at the DMV or online at nvdonor.org. Visit dmvnv.com and learn how to become an organ or tissue donor in Nevada.

New Trail to Provide Improved Access to Truckee River

Image

Congratulations to the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) and partners for completing the development of a new trail that improves access to a portion of state land along the Truckee River in Sparks. NDOW partnered with the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail, Nevada Division of State Lands, Washoe County Parks, and Granite Construction Company to complete the new trail system in an undeveloped, underused area that connects to Washoe County’s Lockwood Park trail system. Granite Construction Company made a substantial donation in material, equipment, and labor to lay base material for a foot path, construct two bridges and install fencing. This new access will allow anglers and other recreationalists the ability to more easily enjoy the Truckee River fishery and the wildlife that utilize the area without having an extensive footprint.

Join Nevada Department of Veteran Services (NDVS) for the Annual Women Veterans Conference on March 12th

Image

NDVS is hosting their Annual Women Veterans Conference on 12 March 2022. The theme is: “Emergence: A Way Forward.” This hybrid event will take place in-person at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center and will also be offered virtually through Zoom. The link will be provided to registrants prior to the Conference.

Women warriors are rising to prominence in the military and in their communities. But as women emerge and establish their place as leaders in our communities, many still face challenges. Whether these challenges began during their military service, because of a difficult transition back into civilian life, or for other reasons, with community support and connection to opportunities women veterans can find a path to fulfillment.
