News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

As a proud member of the House Financial Services Committee, I want to share with you information on the incredible progress we made this week: in just four days, six of our committee’s bipartisan bills passed the House and now await action from the Senate. These bills addressed a range of issues including regulatory relief for small banks and credit unions, consumer protection, and enhancing our nation’s national security.

I took to the House floor on Wednesday to speak about one of those bills in particular, the Iranian Leadership Asset Transparency Act (H.R. 1638), which will require a list of the known assets of senior Iranian officials to be made publicly available and in all three of Iran’s major languages. In a country where top political and military leaders control an estimated one-third of the total economy, this information is key for Iranians who wish to invest not in corruption or terrorism, but in freedom. President Signs FY18 NDAA into Law

This week, the President signed into law the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2018 (NDAA) which will strengthen the U.S. military, modernize equipment, restore readiness, and give our troops a well-deserved pay raise. The NDAA is a crucial part of our national security, as it authorizes the resources and provides the policies necessary to begin the process of rebuilding our military. I am grateful to see this year’s NDAA directs resources to Minnesota, such as funding for an indoor small-arms range for the Minnesota Air National Guard.

Holiday Cards for Heroes

This week, I had the opportunity to attend the American Red Cross’ event ‘Holiday Mail for Heroes’ where I wrote our service-members holiday cards. This holiday season, I would like to take the time to remember our troops currently serving overseas away from their loved ones. Without their sacrifice, we would not be able to spend this joyful season with our families. I am grateful for their dedication to service and was honored to send them some holiday cheer.

As a Minnesotan, I understand how important strong agriculture policy is for our state’s farmers and ranchers. They play the critical role of providing food and fuel for America and the rest of the world. That’s why I’ve been working with the House Agriculture Committee to correct disparities across county lines on safety net payments for farmers in the popular Agriculture Risk Coverage County (ARC-CO) program. Stay tuned for more and follow me on Twitter and Facebook or go to my website to keep up with this and other legislative efforts in Washington.
