Weekly Newsletter

More than 588,000 at-home rapid tests kits are on their way to Nevada at this moment. These test kits – which are separate from ones being delivered to the State by the federal government – will be available to those in high-need communities by the end of this month.

My team is eagerly tracking these shipments and providing updates to our community partners who will help us get them into the hands of Nevadans.

These kits will be available at locations across the State, including the health and fire districts, libraries, health care clinics, Chambers of Commerce, community organizations, and more.

We will be updating the COVID-19 testing page on the Nevada Health Response website as more information comes in so Nevadans will know when these shipments arrive and where they will be located in our communities for pick up.

I want to close with a reminder to PLEASE, get your COVID-19 vaccine if you have not already done so. If you are eligible for a booster, please go get your booster shot. You can find a clinic near you by visiting nvcovidfighter.org.

Thank you,

Governor Sisolak

Governor Sisolak & First Lady Kathy Sisolak Attend U.S. Senator Harry Reid’s Memorial Service at the Smith Center in Las Vegas

Image

I Last week, Kathy and I were honored to have attended U.S. Senator Harry Reid’s Memorial Service at the Smith Center in Las Vegas. There, we were witness to an outpouring of support for Senator Reid which undoubtedly spoke to his character and his legacy.

To say Harry Reid was a giant doesn’t fully encapsulate all that he accomplished on behalf of the state of Nevada and for Nevada families; there will never be another leader quite like Senator Reid. To me, he was a mentor, a father figure, and someone I trusted to always give it to me straight.

Perhaps what I appreciate most about Senator Reid’s legacy is he never forgot who he was or where he came from. From humble beginnings in Searchlight, he became one of the state’s most powerful and fiercest advocates in Washington, DC. He spent his life and his career fighting the good fight for all Nevadans. I feel lucky to have known him.

I’m beyond thankful for the moments we shared. He will be so deeply missed but the mark he left on the Silver State will last forever.

This Week’s Nevada Small Business Spotlight: “FRIES N’ PIES”

Image

Are you in the mood for some comfort food that you can find in only one place in Las Vegas? Then you need to check out Fries N’ Pies at 4503 Paradise Road, Suite 350, which is across the street from the Virgin Hotel.

At Fries N’ Pies you can order Poutine, the unofficial food of Canada.

“Legend has it that a chef in Montreal was running low on products and he came up with a dish of cheese curds and messy fries loaded with gravy,” said owner Adam Sadie, who grew up in the Seattle area and would go across the border for many different options.

Through the years, chefs from all over Canada have experimented with Poutine by adding different meats and gravies, in addition to combinations that have included lobster and even foie gras. Sadie says Fries N’ Pies are reinventing Poutine, first by going against the fast-casual standard of a frozen bagged fry and creating fresh-cut homemade fries that are a part of a labor intensive 48-hour process from start to finish.

They also offer sweet potato fries and roasted cauliflower to build your Poutine on. They have also gone outside the box with creative combinations such as the Cuban sandwich Poutine, and the biscuits and gravy Poutine. They offer a diverse selection of homemade sauces to accompany each individual Poutine recipe option. And for those that are in pursuit of the perfect fry, duck-fat French fry option can be selected on all Poutines.

Fries N’ Pies also has a full menu that includes pizza, cheeseburgers, Philly cheesesteak, tacos and chicken wings. For more information go to friesnpies.com, call 702-749-7030 or email at info@friesnpies.com
