Weekly Newsletter

I was grateful to stop by the State Infrastructure Bank board meeting this week. The State Infrastructure Bank strengthens our focus in developing our infrastructure and helps create real jobs for real people. That’s why I sponsored the Legislation to fund the bank for the first time ever during the 81st Legislative Session.

We have dedicated $75 million for the State Infrastructure Bank to create a robust pipeline of critical infrastructure projects which include prioritizing affordable housing and getting broadband access to the rural parts of our State in order to ensure that Nevadans can thrive and prosper.

I want to thank members of my cabinet who are also serving on the State Infrastructure Bank board and Congressman Horsford who joined us in this week’s weeks meeting to talk about how the federal delegation will accelerate our work.

In 2022, we are focused on our economic recovery, creating good-paying jobs, and helping Nevadans get to work!

Thank you,

        Gov Sisolak

Ahead of New Year’s Eve last week, I had the honor of stopping by and thanking members of the Nevada National Guard, the Nevada State Police, and our hard-working Nurses and Doctors who have gone above and beyond in keeping fellow Nevadans safe and healthy. On behalf of the great State of Nevada, thank you to each and every single one of them for their continued care and support throughout this pandemic.

Governor Sisolak Makes Quarterly Salary Donation to Nevada Public Schools

Image

Last week, I made my quarterly State salary donation of $27,474.45 to Nevada’s K-12 public schools, continuing my pre-election promise to donate my entire taxpayer-funded salary to positively impact Nevada's public schools.

These continued donations remain a symbol of my commitment to education and my promise to positively impact the lives of our educators, families, and the children of Nevada’s public schools. Improving our public schools is a priority for me and this is one way I can personally help achieve this priority.

Nevada Tops the List of States’ Economic Momentum

I am proud to highlight Nevada is ranked number one for the state with the best economic momentum, according to Federal Funds Information for States’ (FFIS) Index of State Economic Momentum

Our State has made tremendous progress in our recovery efforts over the past two years and I know we’ll accomplish even more in the new year. Being at the top of lists like this one is critical to our success but more importantly, as our state grows, I am working to ensure every Nevadan is given the chance to succeed, earn more, and provide for their families. I look forward to continued growth and topping many more lists in 2022.

This Week’s Nevada Small Business Spotlight: “The Purple Avocado”

Known for its eclectic and whimsical gifts, The Purple Avocado, located in Carson City has been part of the community for more than 20 years.

Owners Sue and Stan Jones say the best part of their business is the friendships and support they have received. "We feel so happy being able to continuously offer unique gifts, friendly service, and puppy dog kisses from Beau!"

When the pandemic hit in March 2020, Sue and Stan had to close The Purple Avocado for about 10 weeks. Fortunately, when they applied for the small business Pandemic Emergency Technical Support grant or the “PETS grant,” they were approved.

"It was so appreciated to take the stress off of paying the monthly bills such as rent, utilities, and health insurance that occur whether you are open or not," said Sue.   The Purple Avocado weathered that storm and business is better than ever thanks to the wonderful support provided by the PETS grant and through the support and loyalty of their customers!

Built on a historical home erected in 1863 and located at 904 N. Curry Street in Carson, The Purple Avocado is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information, visit their website by clicking here or their Facebook page "The Purple Avocado" - It's truly a fun place to shop!

The Nevada Department of Transportation is inviting Nevada schoolchildren between 6 and 17 to create original paintings depicting their perfect aircraft of any type as part of a national aviation art competition.

All art must be drawn by hand (not computer-generated) in permanent marker, crayon or paint on an 11 ¾ x17 ½ piece of paper or nearest equivalent size and submitted to NDOT by Jan. 10, 2022.

The contest inspires young Nevadans to learn more about aviation and aeronautics and supports NDOT’s vision to keep Nevada safe and connected by all modes of transportation. See contest details by clicking here.

BUCKLE UP: Four Steps for Kids!

Nevada’s laws on child safety seats changed on January 1.  Children under six years old who are less than 57 inches tall must ride in an approved child restraint system. Children under two must ride in a rear-facing child safety seat in the back seat of the vehicle. Even more important, make sure all children (even as old as 12) ride in a booster seat until the seat belts fit properly.  Click here for the details and for links to make sure you buckle up everyone safely!
