Weekly Newsletter

This week, I was proud to participate in the LARGEST job fair in Nevada state history alongside the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, the Governor's Office of Economic Development and so many other partners.

With roughly 2,100 attendees, 182 employers, and over 16,723 job openings, this event was a testament that we as a State are rebuilding and coming back stronger than ever!
I want to thank the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, Nevada JobConnect, the LVCVA, and the hundreds of employers and community partners who made this event possible.

This was an amazing opportunity to not only connect Nevadans directly to jobs, but it was also a priority for me to have services here so we can connect Nevadans to retraining programs so they can learn new skills and find a new, good-paying career.

If you were unable to attend Jobfest 2021, there are still resources available to help improve your skills such as SkillsMatch and with help with your job search, I encourage Nevadans to visit Nevada JobConnect and EmployNV.gov.

As long as I am Governor, you have my support that I will continue to do everything to help lead the recovery for the people of this great State.

Thank you,
Gov Sisolak

Governor Newsom and Governor Sisolak Announce I-15 Expansion Project to Tackle Congestion at California-Nevada Border

Image

I appreciate Governor Newsom and California’s willingness to work together on this critical issue for both our states and for all our travelers. Annually, more than 11 million Las Vegas visitors drive in and out of town on I-15 and this temporary expansion of a five-mile stretch between Nevada and Barstow that will ease traffic congestion during peak hours is a major step forward while we continue to collaborate and work toward more permanent solutions.

The Sisolak Family Participates in 23rd Annual 98.5 KLUC Chet Buchanan Show Toy Drive

Image

This year, First Lady Kathy Sisolak, my daughters and I participated in the 23rd Annual 98.5 KLUC Chet Buchanan Show Toy Drive taking place at the parking lot of the NV Energy building in Las Vegas.

We were grateful for the opportunity of bringing the trifecta - 3 bikes, 3 board games, and 3 gift cards for my third year in office as Governor. Thank you to Chet, the staff at KLUC, and everyone who works hard in making this yearly event possible!

I encourage all Nevadans to contribute to this great cause as one bike, one toy, one gift card can make all of the difference in a children’s life this holiday season. The last day to participate is Monday, December 13 - learn all the details more about this toy drive by clicking HERE.

Governor Sisolak Speaks at the Latin Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Celebration & Awards Gala

Image

Thank you to President Peter Guzman, Board Chairman Andres Estrada, and everyone from the Latin Chamber of Commerce for inviting me to their ‘Annual Celebration & Awards Gala’ and for their continued unwavering commitment to supporting Nevada’s small businesses.
To say they have been partners during the pandemic is an understatement. During the height of the pandemic, the Latin Chamber of Commerce mobilized and did everything they could to identify the needs of its members and provide resources to members of our business community and their families. On behalf of the great State of Nevada and the over 3.2 million people that call it home, thank you all for your dedication and commitment to our communities!

Governor Sisolak Consults with Nevada Tribal Leaders on Federal Boarding School Initiative

Image

Last week, I had the honor to meet with Nevada tribal leaders and elders at Stewart Indian School in Carson City to discuss the Federal Boarding School Initiative launched by the U.S. Department of the Interior earlier this year.
The story of Nevada for the Native people who were here originally is grim and cannot be glossed over with words. It is my hope that the actions of my administration - from eliminating tuition to improving consultation - mark a new chapter. You have my promise of the full commitment of the state to support the Tribal Nations throughout the Department of Interior’s investigation and look forward to continued work together. This Week’s Nevada Small Business Spotlight: “Black Rabbit Mead Company”

Black Rabbit Mead Company Provides Reno’s Brewery District with Taste of Honey
When two high school teachers connected with a honey producer, eventually Nevada’s first meadery was born. It’s not quite that simple, but Will Truce is the one with the master’s degree in Microbial Biology. Jack Conway is your classic home beer brewer and Al Sindlinger produces Rabbit Brush Alfalfa honey from Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountain range communities.

Put them all together and the result is Black Rabbit Mead Company tasting room at 401 East Fourth Street in Downtown Reno. What has resulted is not your basic medieval stereotype of high alcohol sweet port wine.
“We spent years working to make a refreshing drier mead with a lot less alcohol,” said Truce, who quit his day job as a high school biology teacher. “We like to describe what we produce as a cider style mead using Sierra Nevada honey. We also do a lot of infusions, for example, we just came out with a blueberry lemon mead that has a light background of honey that’s carbonated and chilled.”

Truce calls his meads delicious, refreshing, and glutton free. They also have Pigeon Head and another local IPA on tap. They are now also offering up a non-alcoholic honey mint soda. Food wise, they serve up Crafted Palette hand pies. You can also pick up Al Bees Nevada Honey in the meadery.

Smog Spotters are Part of Nevada’s Air Quality Solution

Image

Nevada’s fresh air is priceless, and preserving it begins with clean emissions. The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles is tasked with enforcing the state’s vehicle emissions laws, but the public’s help is needed.
That’s why the Nevada Smog Spotter program was created. Anyone can be a Smog Spotter. Just log on to SmogSpotter.com and submit a quick report or call 1-844-END-SMOG. Be sure to have some basic information recorded: License plate number, vehicle make and model, date, time and location.
There is something every Nevadan can do about protecting the state’s air quality: Become a Smog Spotter!

Nevadans Encouraged to Share Input, Shape the Future of Water Management Across the State

This week, the Nevada Division of Water Resources released a survey to gather input from the public on all aspects of water management in Nevada to help guide the development of an updated State Water Plan. The survey is available online now through December 15, 2021.

The State Water Plan will serve as a high-level policy and planning guide focused on addressing Nevada’s many complex water challenges, including the increasing demand for limited water resources, floods, prolonged drought, dam safety, and sustainment of our wetlands and freshwater ecosystems – all within the over-arching context of Nevada’s rapidly growing population and the accelerating impacts of climate change occurring in all corners of the state.
