Weekly Newsletter

This week, President Joe Biden signed the historic Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act into law. This legislation will make life better for Nevadans, create a generation of good-paying union jobs and economic growth, and position our State and nation toward a path of success.

For decades, infrastructure in Nevada has suffered from a lack of investment. As Governor, I helped secure a $75 million investment to kickstart our State Infrastructure Bank --the first time the bank was funded since its inception in 2017-- and the additional federal dollars will complement the work we are already doing.

As we rebuild, our focus remains on strengthening our clean power production, enabling access to high-speed internet across our State, and helping improve sustainable transportation options for the over 3 million Nevadans who call this State their home.

I want to thank the Biden-Harris Administration for their vision in pushing this bill forward and for members of the Nevada federal delegation who supported this measure. We are ready to get to work.
Thank you,

Governor Sisolak Celebrates Apprenticeship Week in Nevada

Last week, I had the opportunity to tour Heat and Frost Insulators Local #135’s training facility in Southern Nevada. Apprenticeships help create well-paying careers in skilled trades and I was honored to see the work being done every day in this facility.

I was grateful to be joined by so many folks who are engaged in this work and to present the Apprenticeship Week proclamation. Together, we are building back stronger than before!

Nevada Represented at International Climate Conference

Image

During the first two weeks of November, leaders from around the globe gathered in Glasgow, Scotland, for the 26th Conference of Parties (known as COP26), an annual UN climate summit. Given the current and emerging impacts of the climate crisis, the conversations and negotiations at COP26 were uniquely urgent. Thanks in large part to the U.S. Climate Alliance and The Climate Registry, this year’s COP included representation from state, local and other subnational governments from across the globe, an indication of the reality that combating climate change requires action at all levels of government.

I’m proud that Nevada sent some of our most climate-dedicated representatives to join the largest-ever delegation of U.S. subnational leaders, including Senator Jacky Rosen and two members of my cabinet: Director Bradley Crowell of the Department of Natural Resources and Director David Bobzien of the Governor’s Office of Energy. During the first week of COP26, Director Bobzien moderated a panel that was specifically set up discuss multi-level climate action in the U.S. In addition, both directors participated in events hosted by the Under2 Coalition, including exploring ways investors, industry and governments can shape opportunities and accelerate capital deployment for sustainability.

As the world moves forward from COP26, Nevada is already doing its part to help meet the greenhouse gas reductions necessary to avoid the worst impacts of the climate crisis.  Nevada is well on its way to phasing out coal and will continue doing its part to demonstrate that addressing climate change is not only essential for protecting our natural environment, but also the pathway for building and sustaining a strong, resilient economy. Nevadans Encouraged to Share Input, Shape the Future of Water Management Across the State

Image

This week, the Nevada Division of Water Resources released a survey to gather input from the public on all aspects of water management in Nevada to help guide the development of an updated State Water Plan. The survey is available online now through December 15, 2021.

The State Water Plan will serve as a high-level policy and planning guide focused on addressing Nevada’s many complex water challenges, including the increasing demand for limited water resources, floods, prolonged drought, dam safety, and sustainment of our wetlands and freshwater ecosystems – all within the over-arching context of Nevada’s rapidly growing population and the accelerating impacts of climate change occurring in all corners of the state.
