News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

This week I spent a large amount of time in a Financial Services Full Committee Markup, where my colleagues and I considered many different pieces of legislation. I was proud that two of my bills, which will bring much needed relief to Minnesota’s communities, were passed out of committee.

The first bill is my Home Mortgage Disclosure Adjustment Act, which will provide essential regulatory relief for our community banks and credit unions, so that they can better provide the capital that small businesses and families need to survive. To learn more about this important piece of legislation, watch my speech on the Home Mortgage Disclosure Adjustment Act below!

The second piece of legislation was my Micro Offering Safe Harbor Act, which will help small businesses raise capital. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy as they account for two-thirds of all new jobs, which is why I am proud to introduce a bill that will allow small businesses to grow and thrive. Doing Away with an Unnecessary Plan

On Tuesday, the Trump Administration announced their decision to rescind the Clean Power Plan. The Clean Power Plan was promulgated by the Obama Administration without Congressional approval, making it the perfect example of federal overreach. To make matters even worse, this plan was estimated to cost more than $30 billion dollars, and would have caused Minnesotans’ energy bills to skyrocket.

I am incredibly proud that Minnesota companies and elected officials have taken it upon themselves to work to reduce carbon emissions without the heavy hand of the federal government demanding so. In fact, even without the constraints of the Paris Accords or the Clean Power Plan, Minnesota is still on track to meet previous reduction goals, proving that Minnesotans are capable of implementing policies that work for Minnesotans and are in the best interest of the future of this nation.

I applaud the Trump Administration’s decision to roll back this unnecessary and overreaching plan, and I look forward to working with my colleagues in Congress and the Trump Administration towards an all-of-the-above energy plan so we can maintain a prosperous economy and healthy environment that generations to come can enjoy.

Last week, I introduced the Minnesota’s Economic Rights (MINER) in the Superior National Forest Act, which will help restore mineral rights to Minnesota so that our miners, the state of Minnesota, and nation can once again thrive.

There has been some misinformation going around about this bill, so this week, I wanted to take a little time to explain this bill further, talk about why it matters, and to clear up any falsehoods about it. To hear my message on the MINER Act, click on my message below.

Once again, thanks for staying up to date with the work I am doing for Minnesota’s Sixth District. Until next week…
