Weekly Newsletter

This week, I was proud to announce, along with my fellow Governors, that the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup completed their review of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 for youth 5 to 11 years old.

The vaccine is now available for those as young as age 5 in locations throughout our state. The decision by the FDA and CDC to expand and recommend the use of the vaccine among children followed an in-depth review of available safety, immunogenicity, and efficacy data, and vaccination is encouraged for all those who are eligible.

This is an important milestone in our fight against COVID-19 and I hope families across the state will get their questions answered and make the choice to be vaccinated.

We want our students to have more days in the classroom, more time with family and friends, and the protection the vaccine provides.

Please speak to your pediatrician or trusted health care provider and make a plan to have your children vaccinated.

Additionally, I want to close with a reminder to PLEASE, get your COVID-19 vaccine if you have not already done so. If you are eligible for a booster, please go get your booster shot. You can find a clinic near you by visiting www.nvcovidfighter.org or calling 800-401-0946.

Thank you,

Gov Sisolak

This weekend, I participated in the annual Nevada Day Parade alongside President Sandoval and the University of Nevada Marching Band to commemorate the birth of our great State and the resilient people that call it home.  On our anniversary, it is important to remember that we are in this together, we are Battle Born and together, we will overcome. Governor Sisolak Announces $11.3 million in Grant Funding to Boost Access to Healthcare in Rural Nevada

                             Image

This was a great week for the State of Nevada as the Helmsley Trust graciously committed a major $11.3 million grant investment in healthcare for some of our most rural corners of Nevada. I was grateful to have been accompanied by Walter Panzirer, Assemblyman Steven Yeager and so many others at St. Rose Hospital in Henderson.

Investing in education centers in urban areas helps train those who will serve rural areas. The grants will help level the playing field for NV hospitals by giving rural patients access within their own communities to the same state-of-the-art equipment found in urban centers. To read the full press release on this grant announcement, click HERE.

This Week’s Nevada Small Business Spotlight: “Nevada Ballet Theatre”

                 Image

Nevada Ballet Theatre (NBT) is back on stage for its 2021-2022 season in time to celebrate its 50th Anniversary year, and long-awaited return to The Smith Center stage in Las Vegas. On December 22, NBT’s season will commence with its annual production of The Nutcracker. It will be presented over three weekends including Christmas Eve and after Christmas performances.

“We could not be more thrilled to usher in a new season and perform again for our audience,” said Artistic Director Roy Kaiser. “The artistry of our dancers paired with brilliant choreography will serve as the perfect backdrop for this inspiring year of celebration.”

Despite a $3 million loss in revenue across the organization last year due to the pandemic, NBT continued to share the art form of ballet and its impact on the community in a variety of ways. Half of those losses resulted from the cancellation of The Nutcracker. Despite the financial setback, NBT strived to remain active with children in the community.

While NBT continued to leverage some of its more traditional fundraising programs by reimagining them for the new reality, applying for important state and federal funding was key to maintaining critical operations and moving NBT’s mission forward in providing training and education to the youth of Las Vegas.

The small business operational support received through the PETS Grant enabled NBT to retain its faculty, Community Education Program Teaching Artists, and other salaried workers where funding would have been uncertain. The reopening of NBT’s affiliated school, the Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre, was critical in resuming both virtual and in-person classes for NBT’s student body.

For more information about renewing or purchasing subscriptions, go to www.nevadaballet.org or call the Smith Center Box Office for single performance tickets at 702-749-2000.

Governor Sisolak Celebrates Nevada Becoming the Nation’s 16th Clean Cars State

                        Image

Cleaner cars are on the way! Governor Sisolak celebrated the State Legislative Commission’s approval of Clean Cars Nevada last Friday, a landmark regulation that will strengthen vehicle emissions standards and help curb transportation pollution, while providing Nevadans with more choices for electric and plug-in hybrid cars and trucks beginning in 2024.

In addition to increasing consumer options, Clean Cars Nevada will help advance the State’s climate action and sustainability goals, reduce harmful air pollution from vehicles on Nevada roads, and contribute to a stronger economy. While Clean Cars Nevada will provide a broader selection of low and zero-emission vehicles at dealerships across the state, the new regulation will not require anyone to give up their current vehicle or choose one that does not work for their lifestyle or business needs. Crash Responder Safety Week (Nov. 8-14) : Help Keep our Traffic First Responders Safe

                       Image

There are approximately 50,000 reported crashes on Nevada roads every year. Traffic incidents are the primary cause of death for police officers and emergency medical responders nationwide. To help keep drivers, incident victims, and first responders safe, Nevada traffic incident response train together in Traffic Incident Management coalitions to improve road incident response and roadway safety while reducing travel delays.

You can help. Nevada law has long required drivers to slow down, proceed with caution, and if possible, move to a lane that is not adjacent to emergency vehicle(s) pulled over on the side of the road with lights on. Since 2017, an updated law requires drivers to do the same for NDOT and other road work vehicles with flashing amber or non-flashing blue lights on. For more information, click HERE.
