Weekly Newsletter

This week, Nevada Treasurer Zach Conine and I concluded the Nevada Recovers Listening Tour at the West Las Vegas Public Library. Thank you to all the Nevadans who helped give us their feedback and ideas during this process.

The tour kicked off in early August aimed at allowing residents in every community to provide input on how we as a State can best utilize and invest the funds allotted to Nevada from the American Rescue Plan Act.

Over the course of 75 days, more than 120 events were held throughout the State. And more than 2,500 proposals have been submitted for the Nevada Recovers plan.

Now that we have spent a lot of time listening, we have to take action.

We must strive to provide good jobs to every Nevadan and build a more resilient economy for our workforce and small businesses, and we must invest in and expand access to affordable child care and affordable housing. The success of our families and our community depends on it.

As Governor of the great State of Nevada, you have my commitment I will continue to work hard to build the Nevada we all deserve.

Thank you,

Gov Sisolak

Governor Sisolak Addresses Nevada Traffic Safety Summit

   Image  Image

This week, I was able to address the Nevada Traffic Safety Summit. Thank you to all of the members of the traffic safety community as they continue to connect under the common goal of improving safety on Nevada’s roadways. I am appreciative of all of the work they do. They are a calm and steady presence in our time of need.

As first responders, the compassion and professionalism they bring to work every day truly makes a difference.  We know traffic safety is not just about response efforts; so much of the work is prevention. That’s the kind of work that happens only through great collaboration between state and local officials to bring together public and private partners and roll out robust education campaigns - Thank you!

  Image      Image

This week, I was honored to participate in a virtual discussion with Faith leaders from across Nevada and representatives from Immunize Nevada to discuss our efforts to encourage Nevadans to get their COVID-19 and flu vaccine.

Faith leaders have been exceptional partners throughout the pandemic and have continued to step up and lead by example by continuing to encourage congregants to get vaccinated and to do their part to help keep our communities healthy and safe.

Earlier this week, I had the honor of welcoming Vice President Kamala Harris to the great State of Nevada as she visited Lake Mead to shine a light on climate change, drought impacts, and the importance of investing in climate-forward solutions. We look forward to continuing to work with the Biden-Harris Administration as we address climate change.

Governor Sisolak Speaks at the Black Las Vegas Food Festival

                      Image

Thank you to Blackbook Media and the Black Business Council for having me at this year's Black Las Vegas Food Festival. I want to recognize Brian Harris and Bobbie Mullens for making this event a reality for the community! It’s wonderful to witness how this event has grown to a full weekend filled with great food, love, and company.

We recognize the need to support black-owned businesses, which are key to creating a stronger state. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and as Governor, I will continue to do everything I can to support black-owned businesses!

This Week’s Nevada Small Business Spotlight: “Artesian Cellars”

           Image

Tim Burke grew up in Carson City where his family grew alfalfa and fruit trees. After a successful career in marketing for a major corporation, he found himself gravitating back to what he always loved.

“I went to Napa Valley in my 20s and just fell in love with it,” Burke said. “My business took me to Las Vegas and eventually I was drawn to Pahrump, which is about as close as you’ll get to the small-town environment, I grew up in.”

Burke teamed up with Pam Tyler to create Artesian Cellars in Pahrump. Burke is the winemaker and Tyler, a gaming executive in Las Vegas, is listed as the Chief Operating Officer. They signed a lease for their business in September 2019 and a few months later they were derailed by COVID.

This past year, they were able to harvest 17 tons of grapes in Nevada – enough for about 1,000 cases of wine. They have three labels – ‘Wild West’ which features bold red blends, ‘Battle Born” which features grapes harvested in Nevada, and ‘Artesian Cellars’ which features old vine Zinfandels from Lodi, Calif. They are currently producing Cabernet Sauvignon, Ruby Cabernet, Barbera, Merlot, Zinfandel, Syrah, Petite Syrah, Chardonnay, Viognier, and Marsanne wines.

Health regulations during the pandemic nudged Artesian Cellars into opening a restaurant which Burke says has been successful. Artesian Cellars Winery was featured in the Grape Basin News on September 23rd.

For more information on Artesian Cellars go to their website at artesiancellars.com or call them at 702-600-7144. Email is Contact@ArtesianCellars.com. They are open seven days a week by appointment. They are located at 1731 South Highway 160 in Pahrump.
