Weekly Newsletter

This week, Councilwoman Olivia Diaz and I joined representatives from Immunize Nevada as we rolled up our sleeves for our annual flu shot.

I would like to thank everyone from Smiths Food & Drug Store for making the process easy and painless. Wherever you are in Nevada – It's more important than ever to get a flu vaccine.

This year’s flu vaccine protects against four different flu variants that are predicted to be the most prevalent. The flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself from getting seriously ill or being hospitalized with the flu. Make it a goal to get your flu vaccine by Nevada Day.

I got a flu vaccine to protect myself, my family, and our community. Get your flu vaccine this season to protect against the flu! For more information please visit cdc.gov/flu

Additionally, I want to close with a reminder to PLEASE, get your COVID-19 vaccine if you have not already done so. If you are eligible for a booster, please go get your booster shot. You can find a clinic near you by visiting www.nvcovidfighter.org.

Thank you,

Gov Sisolak

Last week, First Lady Kathy Sisolak, Miss Nevada Kataluna Enriquez, and I had the honor of kicking off this year’s Pride Parade in Las Vegas, and we had a great time marching down the streets alongside so many Nevadans!

As we celebrate community events like these,  we must never cease to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals have had and will continue to have on our State and nation – Nevada will always be a welcoming place for all!

I would like to thank Ms. Romero and everyone from Jobs for Nevada’s Graduates for inviting me to speak to the bright high school students at Valley High School during their induction ceremony last week.

I believe in these hard-working students and in this program, which is why I joined the Jobs For America’s Graduates National board alongside other governors in a concerted effort to help reach the highest possible outcomes.

I know these students will continue to work hard and help our great State reach new heights - They are our future!

This Week’s Nevada Small Business Spotlight: “ReBAR and Davy’s”

   Image   Image

Now that patrons can return to in-person dining, Derek Stonebarger says the Las Vegas Arts District is back on track and providing a cultural experience he has long felt the city has needed.
“The new community that is evolving here is really exciting,” Stonebarger said. “The city has had to put in 10 new grease interceptors for the 15-20 new businesses coming in and I know October is going to be a great month for us.”

Stonebarger runs ReBAR an antique store and bar as well as Davy’s Locker Bar, which are next door to one another, in the Arts District. In addition to being able to buy the sofa you’re sitting on in ReBAR, they feature live music and Pub Trivia Mondays. For more information go to rebarlv.com or call 702-998-8777. They are located at 1225 South Main Street in Las Vegas.

“Everything and anything in ReBAR is for sale,” Stonebarger said. “Davy’s is where we run our kitchen out of. The idea for Davy’s came from an old bar someplace in the Desert Inn-Maryland Parkway neighborhood where we found a sign they had thrown away.”

The Las Vegas Arts District has quickly become a place Stonebarger has long envisioned. By 2019, the Arts District was featured in the travel section of the New York Times as the “Least Vegas Neighborhood in Vegas.” Stonebarger was mentioned in the story that said the growing arts sector is also one of the friendliest parts of the city and is building up a loyal customer base.

It hasn’t all been smooth sailing, however. During the pandemic, Stonebarger had to board up his business until the health situation improved. Local artists took advantage of the plywood covering as an opportunity. However, he said receiving the PETS grant and other available pandemic reliefs were important.

“I can tell you that without the PETS Grant, we would not be here,” Stonebarger said. “I’m so grateful for what the state was able to do and for all of the relief that was made available during COVID.”
