News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

This Sunday marks the one-year anniversary of the attack at the Crossroads Center Mall in St. Cloud. As we look back and reflect on that day, we remember the horror we felt as our community was attacked by a man with the evilest of ideals. However, we also remember the heroism that was displayed that day. We remember the police, paramedics, and first responders who arrived on the scene within minutes, ready to put themselves in harm’s way to save others. And of course, we remember Jason Falconer, the off-duty police officer, who was able to take down the attacker before he could fatally wound anyone.

We got lucky that day. Jason Falconer’s quick thinking allowed us to escape potential disaster. However, it is important that when it comes to homeland security that we don’t just rely on luck. That is why this week, my colleagues and I voted to pass 12 government-funding bills, which include a focus on strengthening our national defense. The safety of this great nation and its people will always be my top priority, so I am always happy to take measures that will guarantee that safety.

Celebrating the United States Constitution

This Sunday also marks Constitution Day, the very day in which the United States Constitution was signed exactly 230 years ago, officially creating a more perfect union. This document was the first of its kind, laying out the framework for what would eventually become the greatest nation the world has ever seen. A Fair and Simple Tax Plan

As it stands, our nation’s tax code is broken and working against the American people. This is not surprising as the last time we reformed our tax code was more than thirty years ago. It is high time for improvement, which is why House Republicans have come up with a fair and simple tax plan so that American businesses and families can thrive once again.

Our fair and simple tax plan takes aim at reforms that will allow you to keep more of your hard-earned money. This is especially important, as I believe that you know better than the government on how best to spend YOUR money. Our tax plan will also deliver the lowest tax rates in modern history, so that job creators can invest more money back into their business, allowing their business to grow and create more jobs. These are just a few examples of how this tax code will help you. To learn about all the ways in which House Republicans tax reform plan will benefit you and your family, click here.

Lending a Helping Hand

Last week we watched in horror as the news broadcasted all the damage caused by Hurricane Harvey, and this week we watched again as the news showed us scenes from the aftermath of Irma. It was heartbreaking to see how much damage was done and how many families have been displaced by this catastrophe.

It makes me incredibly proud to see so many folks down in Florida and Texas lending a helping hand. That is why this week I joined the United Service Organizations (USO) at the Capitol to put together care packages for our military members who are currently helping with rescue and relief efforts in states that have been affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. While we cannot thank our military members enough for their critical work in assisting these folks who so desperately need help, I hope that these packages let them know just how grateful we are.

If you are interested in lending a helping hand and donating to folks who have lost everything, please click here.

Once again, thanks for staying up to date with the work I am doing in Washington DC. Until next week…
