Weekly Newsletter

On this fourth year anniversary of the horrific and senseless violence at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, Nevadans mourn with the friends, family, and loved ones of the victims who were killed in the devastating attack.

I was humbled by the opportunity to honor the 1 October victims at Clark County's Sunrise Remembrance Ceremony where I was witness to an absolutely moving tribute by Dee Ann Hyatt, the sister of Kurt Von Tillow and Matt Sky, who sang  Mark R. Johnson’s “Four Years After”.

After the ceremony, I visited the Las Vegas Healing Garden to pay my respects to the lives lost. What a serene and calming location for families and loved ones - I am grateful for all those who helped make this a special place to mourn and remember.

This week, and every day after, we will continue to remember and honor the members of law enforcement organizations, first responders, and individuals from all walks of life who provided aid and assistance in countless ways during our time of need.

Through our grief, we reflect on the outpouring of kindness and support received from fellow Americans and communities worldwide, and we express our heartfelt gratitude to all those who helped us become “Vegas Stronger".

Thank you,

Gov Sisolak

Governor Sisolak Wraps Successful Jobs + Workers Week of Highlighting Nevada’s Economic Recovery

ImageImage

This week, I was proud to have a successful 'Jobs + Workers Week' in Nevada as our State continues to celebrate its economic recovery.

I spent the week touring Nevada businesses bringing good-paying jobs to our state and helping in the State’s effort to diversify our economy.

Events throughout the week included: Addressing the International Union of Elevator Constructors, a tour of the Sephora distribution facility in North Las Vegas which is slated to bring hundreds of new jobs to the State, addressing the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s first national convention in Las Vegas, a roundtable with AFL-CIO to hear from Nevada’s labor leaders about utilizing federal aid to boost our economic recovery, an additional stop on the American Rescue Plan listening tour to get input from Nevada’s workforce, and ended with a tour of Geotab, a logistics technology company currently employing hundreds of Nevadans.

Additionally, I was proud to work alongside the Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED) in approving 13 companies to relocate and or expand to Nevada that will employ more than 2,300 people and pay an average hourly wage of $33. Nevada has also seen its strongest bond rating to date and our fastest increase in employment, and some of the strongest GDP growth in the country.

We have made tremendous progress already. Through the wise investment of federal dollars and with continued collaboration between the public and private sector, we will continue to ensure our recovery efforts reach all Nevadans.

Governor Sisolak and First Lady Kathy Sisolak Recognized at Planned Parenthood's Corks & Forks Celebration

Image

Kathy and I were honored to be recognized by Planned Parenthood's Corks and Forks celebration. Countless Nevadans have been able to receive sound information, top-notch health care, and life-saving services because of Planned Parenthood. As a single dad, I can’t tell you how grateful I was to know my daughters had a safe place to go. That makes receiving the Walk and Talk Award that much more meaningful -- to know that we’ve been able to help in the fight for reproductive freedom. To all of our legislators and to all of you fighting for a better future for Nevada’s women and girls - I will always stand with you. Thank you!

Governor Sisolak Attends Southern Nevada Building Trades Union Sportsmen Dinner

ImageImage

Last weekend, the First Lady and I attended the Southern Nevada Building Trades Union Sportsmen Dinner for a dinner and awards ceremony. I was glad to talk to so many of Nevada's hardworking men and women! I am a proud supporter of organized labor. Their priorities are my priorities. Nevada is a union state, built from the ground up by the men and women of organized labor. As Governor, I am proud to strengthen our union legacy with policies that are good for workers and families.

This Week’s Nevada Small Business Spotlight: “At Your Service Catering."

Image
When you hang up the phone after talking to Dominic DePatta about catering an upcoming event in Las Vegas, you get the immediate impression that everything is going to be just fine.

Dominic and his sister Rose took over running At Your Service Catering about a decade ago, after their parents started the business in 1991. They have handled major events for government agencies, top law firms and public relations companies for years.

What’s the secret? Perhaps there are many, but it starts with customer service.

“I don’t put our menus on our website because it’s important that when we start working for a group that we custom design everything,” Dominic said. “It’s important to start with asking what a client is thinking about. Things change monthly, but if you’re thinking about a shrimp cocktail or whatever, we work hard to always provide options.”

Whether it’s an intimate breakfast or catering for a major professional golf tournament, Dominic says it’s important to provide as many options as possible. He’s even been known to don a rabbit mascot costume at a local event! He’s also proud of an event they are doing on the top of a Downtown Las Vegas parking garage called Downtown Hidden Cinema.

Stephanie Stallworth, Vice President of Public Affairs for Cox Communications said At Your Service Catering has been a wonderful resource for her company, providing imaginative food creations for their themed events, and sometimes, at a moment’s notice.

Melissa Warren, President of Faiss Foley Merica Public Relations said the DePattas are an integral part of her company as well. “We would think of no other caterer to work with our clients, from major developers to Fortune 500 companies.”

Despite the rave reviews At Your Service Catering has received through the years, Dominic said receiving the PETS grant last year made a real difference for his company.

“It was scary there for a minute,” he said. “While we’re rockin and rolling right now, it could have been a lot different without the help we received. I’m very grateful for the difference the PETS grant made for our company.”

For more information, go to At Your Service Catering’s website – ayscater.com. They can be reached at 702-870-1502. You can also email Dominic at dominic.depatta@ayscater.com.

CCB Launches Online Payment Option for Nevada’s Cannabis Industry

ImageImage

The Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board (CCB) has launched a new ACH payment feature allowing cannabis agent card applicants to submit payments online using a bank routing number and checking or savings account number. Previously, payments were only accepted via mailed check, which required 7-10 business days for processing.

Additionally, the ACH payment option is available for licensees, wishing to submit payments or fees online. The State Treasurer’s Office assisted in testing and launching this new payment feature, which expedites the payment process for those looking to or currently working in Nevada’s cannabis industry. Boards & Commissions

In September, I was proud to announce 46 appointments were made to State of Nevada boards, commissions, and agencies during the month of July and August. I have appointed hundreds of individuals since assuming office, and I encourage anyone who might be interested in serving Nevada and their community to review opportunities posted on the Governor’s WEBSITE, which is updated on an ongoing basis.

Image

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS?

The Governor makes appointments to three types of boards and commissions:

  • Advisory - An advisory board, commission or council serves as a formal liaison between a state agency and the public, in addition to making recommendations on how to address specific issues.
  • Regulatory Board - Regulatory boards are those that oversee the licensing, handle complaints, and enforce disciplinary actions of individuals or industries that fall within the jurisdiction of the board’s authority.
  • Task Force - A task force is created for the purpose of accomplishing a definite objective and goal.

If you are interested in serving, apply now!
