Weekly Newsletter

This week, I had the opportunity to tour some collaborative fuel break work undertaken in advance of and during the Caldor Fire alongside Senator Chris Brooks and numerous state officials and I even had the honor to serve lunch to some of our hardworking firefighters.

Additionally, I was able to meet some of the area residents and talk to them about their experiences with the Caldor Fire and about those that have come to their rescue.

Every single day, I am grateful to the firefighters, fire responders, volunteers, local leaders, and state agencies who are working nonstop to contain this fire and protect them and their homes.

Due to the advanced planning and preparation by the Nevada Division of Emergency Management, the Nevada Division of Forestry, the Nevada Department of Transportation, the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Nevada Department of Conservation & Natural Resources and so many more state agencies and partners – we have been able to move quickly, including mobilizing the Nevada National Guard.

I was proud to see the Nevada Governor's Office of Energy and NV Energy along with others across our State, working collaboratively to help protect power lines so that emergency responders can continue their work to minimize disruptions for Nevadans.

I will continue to do all I can to support our first responders and pray for their safety. I encourage those who are looking for resources to visit the incident management page here. You can also stay up to date with updates from elected officials and local news media.

Thank you,

Gov Sisolak

Food Assistance Available for Caldor Fire Evacuees

Image

Food resources are available for those evacuating from the Caldor Fire. Many evacuations shelters offer food assistance, but for individuals in need not staying at shelters, additional resources are available.

The following is a list of community food sites in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, Storey, and Washoe Counties where individuals can access on-site hot meals and take-away food. These sites provide food through the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), a USDA-funded program for income-eligible individuals (proof of  income is not required), as well as non-TEFAP food anyone can access, regardless of income. Anyone in need of food is encouraged to call the site nearest to them in advance. This list does not include any emergency feeding centers opened specifically for fire response.

Governor Sisolak Signs Emergency Directive 050 in Support of Safer Conventions

Image

Last week, I signed Emergency Directive 050, which expands the mask exception for large indoor events to now include conventions within counties that have “substantial” or “high” COVID-19 transmission if all attendees are vaccinated. This policy expansion gives an option for convention organizers to choose between requiring masks indoors for all attendees, regardless of vaccination status, or ensuring that all attendees are vaccinated, in which case fully-vaccinated attendees can remove their masks. to read my full press release, click here

The State of NV is committed to hearing from every Nevadan, every community, & every corner of the Silver State including from rural townships - As every voice matters when we move forward together and continue on our path towards a full economic recovery.

Boards & Commissions

In September, I was proud to announce 46 appointments were made to State of Nevada boards, commissions, and agencies during the month of July and August. I have appointed hundreds of individuals since assuming office, and I encourage anyone who might be interested in serving Nevada and their community to review opportunities posted on the Governor’s WEBSITE, which is updated on an ongoing basis.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS?

The Governor makes appointments to three types of boards and commissions:

  • Advisory - An advisory board, commission or council serves as a formal liaison between a state agency and the public, in addition to making recommendations on how to address specific issues.
  • Regulatory Board - Regulatory boards are those that oversee the licensing, handle complaints, and enforce disciplinary actions of individuals or industries that fall within the jurisdiction of the board’s authority.
  • Task Force - A task force is created for the purpose of accomplishing a definite objective and goal.

If you are interested in serving, apply now!
