Weekly Newsletter

This week, I was proud to announce the fourth round of winners for Vax Nevada Days. I was joined by Dr. Slonim, President, and CEO of Renown Health, and representatives of Immunize Nevada on this celebration of COVID-19 vaccines and of our fellow Nevadans who are choosing to protect themselves, their loved ones, and our communities by getting vaccinated.

I am grateful to the staff of Renown Health for their help in making this announcement possible and for giving me a brief tour of their amazing Regional Transfer and Operations Center. Doctors and nurses across the State, and those right here at Renown Health, have truly been on the frontlines of COVID-19 and we could not thank them enough for all they have done and continue to do for our State.

I would like to congratulate this week's winners and remind my fellow Nevadans that everyone who gets vaccinated is a winner! Especially, Kathleen P of Henderson, our $250,000 winner! We’ve got four more weeks of prize drawings, including the $1 million grand prize drawing on August 26, so there’s still time to get vaccinated and get entered. Every vaccinated Nevadan is automatically entered. To see the full list of winners and learn more, click here.

To be entered in the rest of the Vax Nevada Day drawings, just get your COVID-19 vaccine. You’ll get protection from COVID-19 and a shot at some incredible prizes. Already vaccinated, you’re automatically entered. Find all the details at www.vaxnevadadays.org. And tune in next Thursday as we reveal more big winners live.

If you have not taken advantage of the opportunity to get your vaccine, make an appointment by visiting NVCOVIDFighter.org or calling 1.800.401.0946

Thank you,
Gov Sisolak

This Week's Nevada Small Business Spotlight: "Adriana Guzmán Fralick"

Image

Reno attorney Adriana Guzman Fralick has had a distinguished career in state and local government serving in legal posts for the Nevada Commission on Ethics, former Governor Jim Gibbons, the Nevada Public Utilities Commission, the Nevada Gaming Control Board, and Nevada Gaming Commission. She had also served as Carson City Deputy City Manager, Chief Deputy District Attorney for Carson City. She served in voluntary roles as a member of the Nevada State Board of Education and the Commission on Post-Secondary Education. She currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Nevada Health Centers.

“After 15 years of public service, I set out to do what I’ve always wanted to do, opening up my own law practice,” Fralick said. “I opened my practice in September (of 2019) and COVID hit in February.”

In addition to specializing in gaming law, being fluent in Spanish, she wanted to serve Latinos who need help with personal injury law. Her gaming clients include small businesses and bars who need help with licensing for bar-top gaming machines. When the pandemic hit, bars closed and far fewer people were driving.
Image“Getting a gaming license is a long process that is often a year out,” Fralick said. “With no one driving, there were very few personal injury cases coming in.”

Because her law practice was brand new, she didn’t have financial records that would qualify her for the first round of federal COVID relief.

“When the PETS grant became available, I was completely shocked that I was eligible,” Fralick said. “It came just in time because I was running out of options. It really saved my law practice. As a result, I was able to pay for advertising for new clients and I was able to hire a paralegal.”

The Governor makes appointments to three types of boards and commissions:

  • Advisory - An advisory board, commission or council serves as a formal liaison between a state agency and the public, in addition to making recommendations on how to address specific issues.
  • Regulatory Board - Regulatory boards are those that oversee the licensing, handle complaints, and enforce disciplinary actions of individuals or industries that fall within the jurisdiction of the board’s authority.
  • Task Force - A task force is created for the purpose of accomplishing a definite objective and goal.
