News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

This week started with a very important holiday. Memorial Day is a day for us to celebrate and remember the courageous men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for us and this great nation.

I had the honor to participate in two Memorial Day ceremonies; one in Sartell and one with the St. Cloud VA.

It is a privilege to join other Minnesotans to show our gratitude to our brave soldiers who gave their lives so that we remain safe. I truly believe we are the land of the free because of the brave. We will always remember their sacrifice.

As General George S. Patton once famously said, "It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God such men lived."

Grab a Glass of Milk
While June brings summer, it also brings National Dairy Month. Minnesota is the proud home of almost 3,500 dairy farms. Last year alone, Minnesota produced nearly 10 billion pounds of milk! Our agriculture community is one of the drivers of our economy and our farmers work tirelessly to provide food, jobs and revenue to our state. Be sure to get out and celebrate our farmers by getting an ice cream cone over the weekend!

Educating the Workforce of Tomorrow
In addition to agriculture, manufacturing is another main driver of our economy. One big issue with the manufacturing industry is not enough people to fill the many vacancies around the state. This is why workforce development and training of trades is so crucial to our future success.

This week, I was able to visit some of the incredible Minnesota training facilities that aim to fix that problem.

I stopped by a sheet metal workers training facility and toured Rockford High School where they place an emphasis on practical training and development with their students. Here, most of the machines used have been donated from the community by business leaders to ensure the workforce of tomorrow knows they have options outside of four-year universities.

Lastly, I visited Wright Technical Center located in Buffalo.

It was a great week visiting with Minnesotans and learning about these important programs within our communities.

Until next time….

Sincerely,
