Weekly Newsletter

This week, I was proud to announce the third round of winners for Vax Nevada Days. I was joined by Myron Martin, President, and CEO of The Smith Center, and representatives of Immunize Nevada on this celebration of COVID-19 vaccines and of our fellow Nevadans who are choosing to protect themselves, their loved ones, and our communities by getting vaccinated.

I am grateful to the staff of the Smith Center for their help in making this announcement possible on their beautiful building as it sets to reopen this fall for a season of live events. Vax Nevada Days are a celebration of all that COVID-19 vaccination enables us to do – like attending live arts performances – and to celebrate everyday Nevadans who are protecting themselves and helping to make community life possible again.

I would like to congratulate all of yesterday's winners and remind my fellow Nevadans that everyone who gets vaccinated is a winner! Especially, Johanna C from Reno, our $50,000 winner! We’ve got five more weeks of prize drawings, including the $1 million grand prize drawing on August 26, so there’s still time to get vaccinated and get entered. Every vaccinated Nevadan is automatically entered. To see the full list of winners, click here.

To be entered in the rest of the Vax Nevada Day drawings, just get your COVID-19 vaccine. You’ll get protection from COVID-19 and a shot at some incredible prizes. Already vaccinated, you’re automatically entered. Find all the details at www.vaxnevadadays.org. And tune in next Thursday as we reveal more big winners live.

If you have not taken advantage of the opportunity to get your vaccine, make an appointment by visiting NVCOVIDFighter.org or calling 1.800.401.0946

Thank you,
Gov Sisolak

This Week’s Nevada Small Business Spotlight: “The Empowerment Center”

The Empowerment Center is a nonprofit organization in Reno, Nevada, helping low income and at-risk individuals recover from substance abuse while simultaneously reintroducing them into their communities.

With a mission to provide safe and sober housing to recovering addicts and alcoholics with services, support, and commitment to each of their residents’ long-term success, The Empowerment Center recently broke ground on their Marvel Way Complex. The first of its kind in northern Nevada, the Marvel Way Project is modeled after successful recovery-focused housing projects across the country and will feature support services and sober living accommodations designed to help residents sustain recovery.

“The Marvel Way Project is not only a testament to our commitment to better serving our community, as it’s a testament to the value our community sees in it,” said Roxanne DeCarlo, executive director of The Empowerment Center. “We were able to accomplish this amazing feat in the midst of a pandemic because of our community’s generosity and support.”

The Governor makes appointments to three types of boards and commissions:

  • Advisory - An advisory board, commission or council serves as a formal liaison between a state agency and the public, in addition to making recommendations on how to address specific issues.
  • Regulatory Board - Regulatory boards are those that oversee the licensing, handle complaints, and enforce disciplinary actions of individuals or industries that fall within the jurisdiction of the board’s authority.
  • Task Force - A task force is created for the purpose of accomplishing a definite objective and goal.
