Weekly Newsletter

This week, I was proud to announce the second round of winners for Vax Nevada Days. I was joined by representatives of Immunize Nevada on this celebration of COVID-19 vaccines and of our fellow Nevadans who are choosing to protect themselves, their loved ones, and our communities by getting vaccinated.

I am grateful to the staff of the Nevada Division of State Parks and the Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park for their help in making this announcement possible on the beautiful shores of Sand Harbor in Lake Tahoe. It was truly a breathtaking location and throughout Nevada Vax Days, almost 500 Nevadans will win an annual parks pass and be able to spend time in the great outdoors.

I would like to congratulate all of yesterday's winners and remind my fellow Nevadans that everyone who gets vaccinated is a winner! Especially, Chloe H, a recent graduate from Carson High School who won this week’s $50,000 grand prize! And Rose-Marie V. from Las Vegas who won the $25,000 cash prize and has truly done her part in helping spread the word about getting vaccinated. She tells us she’s been able to encourage some of her family, her friends, and even one grocery store clerk to get the vaccine! To see the full list of winners, click here.

To be entered in the rest of the Vax Nevada Day drawings, just get your COVID-19 vaccine. You’ll get protection from COVID-19 and a shot at some incredible prizes. Already vaccinated, you’re automatically entered. Find all the details at www.vaxnevadadays.org. And tune in next Thursday as we reveal more big winners live.

If you have not taken advantage of the opportunity to get your vaccine, make an appointment by visiting NVCOVIDFighter.org or calling 1.800.401.0946

This Week’s Nevada Small Business Spotlight: “Jamms Restaurant”

Image

This week’s NV PETS Small Business Spotlight is “Jamms Restaurant”
Jamms Restaurant has been in business for 24 years serving breakfast and lunch. The pot of bread is the restaurant’s trademark item, which is a muffin size homemade bread either plain, cinnamon raisin, or a weekly special. The servers and kitchen staff are old pros at serving the best breakfast and lunch in Vegas, and most of them have been working there for 12-21 years, so consistency is its motto with a big smile.

“At the beginning of the pandemic we were only open for takeout and delivery which we had done little of, as we would rather devote our efforts to in dining customers, but we had to figure out a different strategy through Uber and Postmates,” said Andy Klein of Jamms Restaurant. “We went into the delivery business for a short while, but when we were allowed to open at 25 percent our customers came back to dine-in, although we still did delivery and pickup. It was a difficult time that we endured but we are incredibly lucky to have a great customer base that keeps us in business. We are on Facebook, Tripadvisor, and Yelp with a 4.5 rating and are proud of it.”

The hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7:30am-2pm, and Saturday-Sunday from 7am-2:30pm. For more information about Jamms Restaurant please visit its website at, https://jammsrestaurant.com/

The Nevada DMV has released a new license plate with a theme based on one of Nevada’s most important industries.  The Mining and Metallurgy plate shows a silhouette of a miner with a pickaxe and the slogan “Mining for Our Future.”  The Northern Nevada Section of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration will use the charitable funds from the plate to provide scholarships in mining-related areas at Nevada universities. The Governor makes appointments to three types of boards and commissions:

  • Advisory - An advisory board, commission or council serves as a formal liaison between a state agency and the public, in addition to making recommendations on how to address specific issues.
  • Regulatory Board - Regulatory boards are those that oversee the licensing, handle complaints, and enforce disciplinary actions of individuals or industries that fall within the jurisdiction of the board’s authority.
