Weekly Newsletter

This week, I was proud to announce the first round of winners for Vax Nevada Days. I was joined by Immunize Nevada and other local and community leaders, including Congressman Steve Horsford and CSN President Dr. Federico Zaragoza on this public health incentive program launched last month.

State and local partners will continue to do everything we can to get every individual vaccinated, including increasing the accessibility and availability of vaccines but this week we got to celebrate a program that gives Nevadans 5 million more reasons to get their shot -- Vax Nevada Days!

I would like to congratulate all of yesterday's winners and remind my fellow Nevadans that everyone who gets vaccinated is a winner! But
I was very moved by the story behind the winner of our $250,000 cash prize which was Elizabeth from North Las Vegas. Elizabeth is a kindergarten teacher and when our Immunize Nevada team was speaking with her, she mentioned she was happy to be vaccinated so she could safely be back in the classroom with her students. She also said she’d be happy to win any prize amount, saying that any dollar amount would help in buying supplies for her students and her classroom. To see the full list of winners, click here

To be entered in the rest of the Vax Nevada Day drawings, just get your COVID-19 vaccine. You’ll get protection from COVID-19 and a shot at some incredible prizes. Already vaccinated, you’re automatically entered. Find all the details at www.vaxnevadadays.org. And tune in next Thursday as we reveal more big winners live.

Lastly, If you have not taken advantage of the opportunity to get your vaccine, make an appointment by visiting NVCOVIDFighter.org or calling 1.800.401.0946

Thank you,
Gov Sisolak

Secretary Vilsack Joins Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak and U.S. Congresswoman Susie Lee, for a visit to Estes McDoniel Elementary School

ImageImage

This week, I had a great visit to Estes McDoniel Elementary School with U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, Congresswoman Susie Lee, Superintendent Jara, and Director Ott from the Nevada Department of Agriculture. I am so appreciative of the teams who jumped into action during COVID-19 to ensure students and families never lost access to food resources.

We must continue this work - in schools and in our State. That’s why in June, I signed into law the creation of the “Home Means Nevada” Agricultural Food Program. This allows the Nevada Department of Agriculture to utilize funds to purchase food from Nevada producers and manufacturers for delivery to food banks.

DETR Debit Card Transition

 Image

DETR is transitioning debit cards for UI and PUA claimants. Cards were mailed in the month of June, with some cards arriving in the mail through the first week of July. If you don’t receive your card by the first week in July (July 9), call Way2Go to check the status (844) 542-1115. PUA claimants with direct deposit will see no change.

DETR encourages claimants to ensure their address is updated in your claimant portal. If you have a long address, be sure to put your apartment or unit number on the second address line.
For help with this, you can contact the claims center: Northern Nevada (775) 684-0350, Southern Nevada (702) 486-0350, Rural Nevada and Out-of-State (888) 890-8211.

Nevada Department of Transportation Wants Your Feedback On Roadside Memorials and Secondary Highway Designations

 Image

Tragically, nearly 315 lives were lost on Nevada roads in 2020. While roadside memorials can bring comfort, some can also physically obstruct a roadway or create a visual distraction or other traffic safety concern. The Nevada Department of Transportation is soliciting public feedback to establish formal policies for installing roadside memorials on state roads and highways, as well as creating secondary highway designations to honor Nevada public servants. Through July 31, Nevadans can visit their website to provide input.

Boards & Commissions

I am proud to announce 78 appointments were made to State of Nevada boards, commissions, and agencies during the month of June. I have appointed hundreds of individuals since assuming office, and I encourage anyone who might be interested in serving Nevada and their community to review opportunities posted on the Governor’s WEBSITE, which is updated on an ongoing basis.

  • Advisory - An advisory board, commission or council serves as a formal liaison between a state agency and the public, in addition to making recommendations on how to address specific issues.
  • Regulatory Board - Regulatory boards are those that oversee the licensing, handle complaints, and enforce disciplinary actions of individuals or industries that fall within the jurisdiction of the board’s authority.
  • Task Force - A task force is created for the purpose of accomplishing a definite objective and goal.
