Weekly Newsletter

This week was another busy week on behalf of Nevadans.  I was pleased to join members of the Nevada COVID-19 Private Sector Task Force on Wednesday to discuss their work in the last year. Nevada’s effort to battle COVID-19 were buoyed by our business community and partners in the private sector. They donated funding, acquired personal protective equipment, distributed masks and helped ensure all of Nevada’s schoolchildren had access to connectivity and a device to continue their schoolwork from home.

I am proud of our State, its leaders and all our residents for showing the power of public-private partnership, and the strength and resilience of Nevadans.

I want to remind Nevadans that while we have made great progress, we are not done yet. This week’s Nevada Hospital Association report noted an increase in hospitalizations due to COVID-19. According to the report, the commonality in all these hospitalizations is that none of the people have been vaccinated. We know that in the last year and a half, the effects of this deadly virus have not changed, but our tools to fight the virus have – we now have vaccines, which are highly effective at reducing the severity of cases, hospitalization and deaths.

Nevada’s health care workers have been on the front lines fighting this virus and fighting to protect all of us since day 1 of this pandemic. They long for the day when there are no COVID admissions at their medical facilities – and now we have a tool to make that dream a reality. We owe it to them, ourselves, our families and our State to get vaccinated.

As you all know, last week we announced Vax Nevada Days, our State’s incentive program, and I want encourage all my fellow Nevadans to get vaccinated as soon as possible so you are eligible to win big cash prizes, including the $1 million grand prize!

Thank you,
Gov Sisolak

This Week’s Nevada Small Business Spotlight:  Fox Brewpub

Image

This week we are highlighting Fox Brewpub for the small business spotlight. The Fox is located inside the historic St. Charles Hotel, in the heart of the Carson City’s downtown corridor. The Fox Brewpub is an English-Style restaurant, brewery, and gathering place that was established in 2007.

“2020 was the toughest time in our almost 14-year history here at The Fox Brewpub,” said owner Jim Phalan. “We have been through just about everything, but nothing like this past year. When we opened on January 7, 2008, it was a culmination of love, blood, sweat, and tears, and it has been full steam ahead since then, albeit with highs and lows. When the pandemic hit, we decided to dig in and fight as hard as possible to make it through this. The PETS grant helped us pay our employees and monthly rent, we are very grateful to have been a recipient. We’ve learned a lot over this past year, some for the better, and we hope to take those lessons and drive forward into the future. We hope to continue serving our great community delicious food and frosty beverages for many years to come.”

The Fox Brewpub is a local restaurant, operated by locals. For more information, you can find them at www.foxbrewpub.com or www.facebook.com/foxbrewpub

What You Need to know Before Purchasing a Service Contract

Summer is officially here, but before you blast your air conditioning (AC) or buy a new unit, the Division of Insurance (Division) has some tips for you. Since AC units are expensive you may want to protect your product with a service contract (extended warranty, service agreement, or maintenance agreement) in case it needs to be repaired or replaced, but before you buy a service contract or any big-ticket items, whether it be an AC unit, a refrigerator, or a car, be aware of some important facts. Learn what these facts are on the Division’s website

Boards & Commissions

I am proud to announce 31 appointments were made to State of Nevada boards, commissions, and agencies during the month of May. I have appointed hundreds of individuals since assuming office, and I encourage anyone who might be interested in serving Nevada and their community to review opportunities posted on the Governor’s WEBSITE, which is updated on an ongoing basis.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS?

The Governor makes appointments to three types of boards and commissions:

  • Advisory - An advisory board, commission or council serves as a formal liaison between a state agency and the public, in addition to making recommendations on how to address specific issues.
  • Regulatory Board - Regulatory boards are those that oversee the licensing, handle complaints, and enforce disciplinary actions of individuals or industries that fall within the jurisdiction of the board’s authority.
  • Task Force - A task force is created for the purpose of accomplishing a definite objective and goal.
