Dear Friend,

During this public health emergency, I am working to ensure that Coastal Virginians are aware of helpful federal, state, and local resources. I was happy to see that Norfolk Public Schools recently gained approval to provide free meals to every student.

Earlier this month, Norfolk Public Schools was approved to participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act. Students enrolled in a school under the Norfolk Public Schools system will now be eligible to receive free breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner Monday through Friday.

Households are not required to submit an application or any additional paperwork to receive these meals. Any student, parent, or guardian may pick up their lunch at any of the 34 “grab-n-go” sites that Norfolk Public Schools has designated. For a complete list, please see the table below:

As a mother, I understand how important it is to ensure that all students can access nutritious foods. That is why I recently joined Senator Mark Warner in sending a letter to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, urging the agency to extend several waivers to extend free breakfast and lunch programs for local students. This would help us achieve the uninterrupted and safe distribution of meals to our children.

Please know that my team and I stand ready to assist our community during this time of need. For resources to help you and your family navigate through COVID-19, please visit our website. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our offices via the phone numbers below.
