Weekly Newsletter

This week, I was able to deliver Nevadans some long-awaited good news. The Economic Forum report this week showed that our crisis management, strategic budgeting decisions, and most importantly—the shared sacrifices of every Nevadan in the last 14 months—resulted in the State having $586.2 million more than we thought we would have when we first created this budget in December. The increase in revenue projections along with the funding the State will be receiving from the American Rescue Plan will put us in a better position to begin stabilizing the State’s fiscal situation, restoring critical services, and getting assistance to Nevadans most in need.

We have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to utilize the funding we have to transform our State for generations to come – but it will require us to break the patterns of the past. We must remember that spending is easy, investing is hard – but investing in Nevadans will always be worth it.

I am committed to changing our systemic issues that make Nevada the hardest hit State in the nation when there’s an economic downturn. And I am asking leaders across the State to join me in this effort. I look forward to the challenges and hard work ahead to make sure we set Nevada up for success for generations to come.

Thank you,
Gov Sisolak

Nevada Small Business Spotlight: “food + drink”

Image

“food + drink” opened in February of 2020 offering both kinds of food: pizza and tacos. They are all about making the yummiest food possible which, for them, that means making everything from scratch. From their pizza dough and sauce, to our flour tortillas and sour cream, to the homemade marshmallows they use in our homemade rocky road ice cream, anything that they make ourselves, they do. It’s extra work, but it’s also extra yummy!

“Running a restaurant is hard enough as it is, but to do so during a global pandemic is a whole different thing. We actually closed two days before it was mandated and switched entirely to online ordering/curbside pick-up to be as safe as possible. We haven’t had a customer inside since 3/12/20. If not for the way our community initially embraced our brand-new business when the lockdown started and the incredible support of programs like the PETS grants, we would, without a doubt, not be in business today. While 2020 was unbelievably challenging in ways no one could have foreseen, we are hopeful that the worst is behind us.” - said owner Slava.

They are taking a much needed break for now, but their reopening is set for May 20, but for more information and to see their delicious menu, visit their website here.

Boards & Commissions

I am proud to announce 46 appointments were made to State of Nevada boards, commissions, and agencies during the month of April. I have appointed hundreds of individuals since assuming office, and I encourage anyone who might be interested in serving Nevada and their community to review opportunities posted on the Governor’s WEBSITE, which is updated on an ongoing basis.

  • Advisory - An advisory board, commission or council serves as a formal liaison between a state agency and the public, in addition to making recommendations on how to address specific issues.
  • Regulatory Board - Regulatory boards are those that oversee the licensing, handle complaints, and enforce disciplinary actions of individuals or industries that fall within the jurisdiction of the board’s authority.
