Dear Friend,

In March, I voted for the CARES Act to ensure that our localities have the resources they need to assist Virginians during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Commonwealth used some of its CARES Act funding to create its Rent and Mortgage Relief Program (RMRP) to support and ensure housing stability across Virginia. This program has served over 3,100 households and distributed more than $2.6 million in rent and mortgage payments. To learn about how you can apply, read on.

The RMRP provides rent and mortgage relief to households that have experienced a loss of income due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The financial assistance is a one-time payment with an opportunity for renewal based on the availability of funding and the household’s need for additional aid and continued eligibility.  If any of the below statements apply, you may be eligible.

  • You have been laid off;
  • Your place of employment has closed;
  • You have experienced a reduction in hours of work;
  • You must stay home to care for your children due to the closure of daycare or school;
  • You have lost child support or spousal support;
  • You have been unable to find employment due to COVID-19;or
  • You are unwilling or unable to participate in your previous job due to a high risk of severe illness from COVID-19.

To determine your eligibility, please click on the link here, and complete the brief questionnaire. For more information, please view the Commonwealth’s guide on the RMRP.
