Weekly Newsletter

As we continue on our path toward a full economic reopening by June 1, I want to continue to encourage Nevadans to get their COVID-19 vaccine – and to encourage their friends, family and loved ones to get their vaccine as well.

This week, I had the opportunity to visit the MGM Resorts vaccination clinic at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. This site has given almost 5,000 shots in the last month, serving hospitality workers and their families. The work that’s been done to protect our frontline hospitality workers in Nevada’s largest industry is tremendous. This effort allows us to push forward on our path to economic recovery and focus on equity and accessibility in our COVID-19 immunization campaign.

If you are a hospitality worker who has not yet been vaccinated, I urge you to do so! It’s likely that your workplace has a vaccination site on the property, and if not, I encourage you to visit NVCOVIDFighter.org or call 1-800-401-0946 to find a convenient location near your home or work.

If you have been vaccinated, then talk to your co-workers, family members, friends and neighbors about getting a shot. It’s on all of us to make our comeback a success. This is our call to action!

Thank you,

Gov Steve Sisolak

Nevada Small Business Spotlight: Sports Social

Image

Sports-Social is a talented team of artists, musicians & athletes, teaching sports, art, and music to all ages and ability ranges and specialize in working with children and teens with special needs.

Their mission started with their founder, Andrew Devitt, who was a tutor working with individual families in home-based ABA programs to develop the social and behavioral skills of children with Autism and other disabilities. Through the intersection of different disciplines, it soon became clear that a multi-faceted approach enhanced both the experience and outcome for his students.

From starting as a single tutor, this vibrant business grew and is still very much devoted to building self-confidence, social skills, and positive behaviors among kids of all ages and abilities. Its mission and practices are based on three main principles:

  • TEACH students social skills, emotional maturity, and positive behaviors that will equip them to communicate effectively.
  • ENCOURAGE Learners to put their skills and talents into practice.
  • EMPOWER young people to lead fulfilled, enriched lives with interpersonal interactions and skills to explore exciting sports activities.

The second-best time is now.” Whether your favorite tree is growing in an old growth forest around Lake Tahoe, a beautiful sprawling shade tree in a Las Vegas park, or working hard as a windbreak protecting your ranch, trees provide incredible benefits for all Nevadans. In recognition of Arbor Day, Governor Sisolak issued a proclamation designating April 30th as Arbor Day in Nevada. To view the proclamation, click here.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS?

The Governor makes appointments to three types of boards and commissions:

  • Advisory - An advisory board, commission or council serves as a formal liaison between a state agency and the public, in addition to making recommendations on how to address specific issues.
  • Regulatory Board - Regulatory boards are those that oversee the licensing, handle complaints, and enforce disciplinary actions of individuals or industries that fall within the jurisdiction of the board’s authority.
  • Task Force - A task force is created for the purpose of accomplishing a definite objective and goal.
