News from Representative Larson

Dear Friends,

Over 200,000 Americans have died from COVID-19 and 7 million have been infected. 26 million Americans remain unemployed. Americans need help and they need it now. That’s why I voted for additional COVID relief last week.

The HEROES Act passed by the House offers vital funding to families, state and local governments, small businesses, essential workers, students, and all Americans.

The updated Heroes Act includes:

  • An estimated nearly $7 billion for the State of Connecticut, Connecticut schools, and Connecticut municipalities.
  • A second round of Economic Impact Payments to Americans.
  • A weekly $600 unemployment federal payments increase through next January.
  • Bolstered housing assistance to help Americans pay their rents and mortgages.
  • Support for small businesses and workers through an improved Paycheck Protection Program and Employee Retention Tax Credit.
  • Targeted relief for restaurants and the live entertainment industries.
  • Additional funding for nutrition programs, including a 15 percent increase to the maximum SNAP benefit.
  • Additional $75 billion for COVID testing.
  • $3.6 billion for Election Assistance Grants and $15 billion for the United States Postal Service.

More information on the Heroes Act can be found here.

We voted on this latest relief bill because the Senate refused to act on the original HEROES Act passed by the House in May. Now that the House has voted twice to provide a new round of coronavirus aid, it is incumbent on the Senate to take up this legislation to help Americans in need. I will continue to work with my colleagues to get more relief to Americans and small businesses. We can’t wait any longer.

John B. Larson
Member of Congress
