News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

The first week of President Trump’s Administration has come and gone, and it is wonderful to see what a united government can accomplish in just one short week.

An Energetic Start

Over the past eight years, we watched in dismay as President Obama took an irresponsible approach to this nation’s energy needs. Instead of taking advantage of the energy resources available to us, he blocked each and every attempt at progress, harming our economy and costing Minnesotans jobs. That is why I am ecstatic to see that President Trump signed an executive action on Tuesday to advance the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines. I know that the creation of these pipelines will be a great benefit to the American economy, and I look forward to watching their construction be realized. More Choices for our Students

This week was School Choice Week which is an important issue to me. For too long, millions of students across our nation have been forced to attend deteriorating schools simply because they live in the wrong neighborhood. Sadly, this has caused so many of our students to fail.

As the father of seven beautiful children, I believe that their mother and I know better than Washington bureaucrats in deciding what type of education they should receive. Each child is special and unique, meaning that education in our country cannot be a one size fits all system. Instead, parents must decide what public, private, magnet, charter, religious, or homeschool best fits their child’s needs. That is why I support school choice, and will continue to fight for better education for all of our students.

Congress Will Protect the Right to Life

This week thousands of people from all over the nation will flock to our nation’s capital to participate in the March for Life. The timing for this march is quite fitting, as this week the majority of my colleagues and I voted in favor of legislation that will protect the unborn. On Tuesday, we passed H.R. 7 which will make the Hyde Amendment permanent, preventing taxpayer funding for abortions. I believe that every unborn child has the right to life and the opportunity to reach their life’s full potential; and I am more determined than ever to protect that right.

See You There!

Since we will be accomplishing so much in the 115th Congress, I have decided that I will once again hold frequent town halls, so that I can hear from the people who matter most - you. I encourage you to join me at my first town hall of the year which will be held in Stearns County on February 22nd. I would like to share with you our plans for the next two years, but more importantly, I would like to hear from you. I want to know what issues are most important to you, what questions you may have, and what you would like to see achieved. I hope to see you all there!

Once again, thanks for staying up to date with the work I am doing for Minnesota’s Sixth District. Until next week…

Sincerely,
