News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

It's official. Donald J. Trump is officially the 45th President of the United States. It was an honor to watch the peaceful transition of power from one President to the next - the way that our Founding Fathers intended it to be. Standing there with my family and fellow Americans, witnessing this grand tradition - I was reminded again just how great our nation actually is.

I want to thank every Minnesotan who came out to witness this piece of history with us. You all made this inauguration a once in a lifetime experience and I hope you enjoyed your time as much as I did.

One set of guests that I particularly enjoyed having in town were students from Cathedral High School in St. Cloud. During their visit to my new D.C. office, we had the chance to talk about the importance of civic engagement as well as the future of government. It was inspiring to speak with such an intelligent and interesting group of kids. Our children are the future of this nation, and after meeting these students, I am convinced that the future is very bright!

Making America Competitive Again

This week I reintroduced the CREATE Jobs Act, an important piece of legislation that will make America competitive again. Currently, the United States has the highest corporate income tax rate in the industrialized world at nearly forty percent. Having one of the highest tax rates puts our nation at a huge disadvantage, thus forcing American jobs and businesses overseas.

That’s why it is so important that we enact the CREATE Jobs Act. This vital legislation will lower the corporate income tax rate in our country by five points lower than the average rate of the 33 western and western-friendly countries with whom the United States often trades. Additionally, this legislation would allow the Treasury to adjust the corporate rate every five years so that the United States will always be a global competitor. I look forward to seeing this legislation come to fruition. To learn more about the CREATE Jobs Act and why it is important, click here to read my latest press release.

Bringing the World's Fair Back to Minnesota

I also introduced legislation that would support Minnesota’s proposal to host a World’s Fair in 2023. The U.S. Wants to Compete for a World Expo Act (H.R. 534) requests that the United States rejoin the Bureau of International Expositions (BIE), the international organization in charge of overseeing World’s Fairs, to improve the chances of bringing this event back to the United States.

I believe it is time to bring this incredible event back to the great state of Minnesota. We have the best state in the United States, and it would be a fantastic opportunity to showcase all that we have to offer. To learn more about this incredible potential opportunity, click here.

Once again, thank you so much for keeping up to date with the work I am doing in Washington D.C., and in Minnesota. Until next week…

Sincerely,
