Weekly Newsletter

This week, I was able to share an exciting goal with all Nevadans. By June 1, I am confident EVERY county in the State of Nevada will be able to fully reopen at 100 percent capacity. After extensive conversations with state health officials, and to meet that goal, we will remove the Statewide required social distancing mandate as of May 1. This is an important milestone in our fight against COVID-19!

But the work is not done yet. Our State public health officials feel confident in this planned timeline to fully reopen – but they made it abundantly clear that Nevadans must continue to get vaccinated and must continue to wear masks. That’s why the statewide mask mandate will remain in place throughout this transition. Outside of getting vaccinated, it’s still the best tool we have to prevent the spread.

We know this virus is still present in our communities, and we must also accept the fact that COVID will continue to be present into the future – similar to other viruses we are familiar with. But it’s what we do now that will allow us to return to more normal Nevada on June 1st and focus on a strong economic recovery-- remaining vigilant, wearing a mask, and most importantly, getting vaccinated as soon as possible.

Nevada, we can do this. Let’s meet this goal and come back stronger – together.

Thank you -
Gov. Steve Sisolak

Make a Plan: Knowing How and Where to Get Your Vaccine

Image

As of April 5, 2021, all Nevadans 16 and older are eligible to schedule vaccination appointments statewide. Appointment availability may be limited for the first few weeks based on dose allocation provided by the federal government. State officials encourage Nevadans to plan ahead and be patient with the process.

Each county is moving at their own pace and more information on when, where, and how to be vaccinated can be found at NVCOVIDFighter.org  To schedule your vaccine appointment over the phone & receive county-specific information call our recently launched COVID-19 Vaccine Call Center at 1-800-401-0946.

Nevada Small Business Spotlight: Las Vegas Lights FC

Image

If you have ever been to a Las Vegas, F.C. Lights game, you would not be surprised to find a family-oriented crowd cheering on their favorite soccer team accompanied by great food, a great time, and up-and-coming athletes eager to score and bring home the victory. But only in true Las Vegas fashion, you will experience when a goal is scored, the sound of banging drums erupts from the F.C. lights dedicated fan base, followed by acrobatics from Cash, their Elvis-inspired mascot, and greetings from their unofficial mascots, the llamas!

The city of Las Vegas has been an upcoming player in the world of sports, and thanks to the vision of their Owner and C.E.O, Brett Lashbrook, the hopes of Las Vegas having its very own soccer team became a reality with the establishment of the Las Vegas F.C. Lights in 2017.

“From day one our goal for Lights FC was (and continues to be) to build a community asset that will exist for decades to come. We always knew that soccer in Las Vegas would be successful and that opportunities for the club to accelerate its growth would exist”, said Brett Lashbrook.|

The team took a pause during the pandemic but they are once again fired up and ready to excite eager crowds again. If you want to see what they are all about, make sure to check them out at their home opening game against the ‘Tacoma Defiance’ taking place in the heart of Las Vegas, the Cashman Filed, on June 5, 2021. To view their full Fall 2021 schedule, click here

Boards & Commissions

I am proud to announce 56 appointments were made to State of Nevada boards, commissions, and agencies during the month of March. I have appointed hundreds of individuals since assuming office, and I encourage anyone who might be interested in serving Nevada and their community to review opportunities posted on the Governor’s WEBSITE, which is updated on an ongoing basis.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS?

The Governor makes appointments to three types of boards and commissions:

  • Advisory - An advisory board, commission or council serves as a formal liaison between a state agency and the public, in addition to making recommendations on how to address specific issues.
  • Regulatory Board - Regulatory boards are those that oversee the licensing, handle complaints, and enforce disciplinary actions of individuals or industries that fall within the jurisdiction of the board’s authority.
  • Task Force - A task force is created for the purpose of accomplishing a definite objective and goal.

If you are interested in serving, apply now!
