News from Representative Larson

Dear Friends –

Thank you for taking the time to read my updates! Here is what’s been happening in Congress over the last two weeks.

Impeachment and Oversight of the Trump Administration:

State the Union:

  • I attended President Trump’s State of the Union Address. During his address, he touted an economy that’s illusionary. It works for the wealthy, but it is an illusion for the middle-class. My full statement can be found here.

House-Passed Bills:

  • The House passed the Protecting the Right to Organize, or PRO Act. I cosponsored and voted in favor of this package that will protect American’s right to organize unions which lifts up working conditions and pay for everyone.
  • Additionally, the House passed the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations for Disaster Relief and Puerto Rico Disaster Tax Relief Act to assist Puerto Rico as it responds to a series of recent ongoing earthquakes.
  • I voted to repeal the US Postal Service mandate to prefund future retiree health benefits that has threatened survival of the Postal Service.  The USPS provides critical service to many Americans, especially our seniors and rural communities across this great nation.
  • Last week the House voted to repeal the deadline set by Congress for three-quarters of the states to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. This amendment would guarantee equal treatment of women under the law. I am a cosponsor of the resolution and voted yea.

Ways and Means Committee Updates:

Legislative Updates:

Letters:

  • I sent a letter to the Social Security Administration’s Inspector General (SSA IG), requesting that the SSA IG investigate plans to implement an online portal for benefit over payments to ensure consumer privacy is protected and its role in the Social Security scam landscape.
  • I sent a letter along with the Connecticut Congressional Delegation and Governor Lamont to immediately remove undue restrictions and delays placed on $16.5 billion in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) disaster mitigation and recovery funds for Puerto Rico.
