News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

The 115th Congress is officially underway, and if this week was any indication, we are going to get a lot done!

Like all of you, I myself have a lot of expectations for what needs be accomplished over the next few years. The American people spoke on Election Day and made it clear that they want things to change. So that is our mandate.

To learn more about the top items on the legislative agenda, check out my Ask Tom video below.

Reining in Regulations

We got right to work this week, making the issue of excessive and duplicative regulation a top priority. Under the Obama Administration, we have become a regulation nation and this must stop. In my travels across our fine state, I speak with Minnesotans who are crying out for relief for the regulations that are strangling their families and businesses.

That is why this week the House passed the REINS Act. This vital legislation would ensure that any major rules from a federal agency would require Congressional approval. To learn more about the REINS Act, and why it will make the American people’s lives easier, click on the one-minute speech I gave on this topic below.

The Time Has Come

This week, President Obama was on Capitol Hill in a last ditch attempt to save Obamacare. However, I can think of more than a few reasons why it should not be saved. For example, in Minnesota alone, premiums have increased nearly 67 percent for 2017. Minnesotan families cannot, and should not, have to shoulder these costs.

As a result of these rising costs, many families have opted to go uninsured, rather than pay for these skyrocketing costs. Additionally, in Minnesota, Blue Cross Blue Shield suffered major losses as a result of Obamacare’s failures, forcing them to drop individuals plans. The time has come to put healthcare back into the hands of the states and the American people and the beginning of our new Congress will be dedicated to doing just that!
