News from Representative Tom Emmer

Dear Friend,

Christmas and the New Year are right around the corner, so I wanted to leave you all with a little holiday cheer before you all embark on your holiday destinations. Check out my holiday message to you below!

Join me in Carver County!

While the 114th Congress is winding down, that doesn’t mean that my work is over! I am looking forward to the new Congress ahead so much that I wanted to get a running start. That is why I will be holding one last town hall of my first term in Carver County, next Monday, December 19th, so that I can hear from the people who matter most - the people of Minnesota’s Sixth District.

While every town hall is important, I am especially excited about this event because I want to know what you hope to see in this next Congress. I want to hear what issues are most important to you that you would like to see improved. This conversation is especially important, and I am looking forward to seeing you all there.

Another Missed Opportunity

Once again, the Obama Administration has proven that they are more concerned with putting politics ahead of the interests of the people. This was demonstrated yesterday when the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service refused to renew Twin Metals’ federal mineral leases for the proposed copper-nickel mine near Ely.

This much needed mine would have created thousands of jobs and would have brought millions of dollars to our economy. To read my full statement on this missed opportunity, click here.

Cures are Coming

This week, a piece of legislation that will save American lives has been signed into law. I am ecstatic that the 21st Century Cures Act is now the law of the land!

This vital bill will address some major health issues that our nation faces by breaking down barriers and regulations that prevent medical innovation as well as encourage the development of new drugs that will fight- and cure devastating diseases. In addition to finding cures, this bill will help to solve the major issues our nation is facing with regards to mental health and addiction.

Currently, there are 10,000 known diseases and only 500 known cures, so I could not be happier that this much needed reform is officially in place!

Once again, thanks for staying up to date with the work I am doing in Congress. Until next year…

Sincerely,
